Is see Tapioca in some products and I believe it is used a lot in Gluten free products as a thickening agent. Is it Paleo or should we stay away?

It's a starch that comes from the cassava root, so it is technically "paleo," though it's awfully processed. It's one of those foods that isn't blatantly poisonous but definitely isn't optimal as a dietary staple, and as I recall the root itself has some phytoestrogens going on...I don't know if they remain in the processed product.

So don't stress if you eat a little, but don't eat a lot and don't seek it out.

Tapioca pudding is on my "ok to cheat with if offered any" list. Of course it depends on what else is in it. Tapioca pudding made with coconut milk, fresh fruit, and no sugar sounds like a good paleo desert to me.

i love unprocessed tapioca and taro roots. you boil/steam them and they're starchy like potatoes. coconut milk complements them well. great with fish. i find them in asian supermarkets.

i would only eat them in small portions, and certainly no more than couple times a week, as they're heavy on carbs.

Why would unprocessed tapioca pearls be a problem?
