I'm going to an overnight week summer camp and will not be able to eat paleo, should I bring snacks like nuts and stuff and have those instead of sugary granola bars an just have the meals? its my fifth year going but first time paleo lifestyle, and it cuts into my cross country training a week before practice starts so I wont be able to run at all either. I really love this camp and want to be there and I am but im just different now so its harder. last year at the gift shop there is candy and I got a bunch and someone even gave me their melted Hershey bar and I ate it! now I am at a really good shape in my life, so would it knot hurt to be off for a week? im stuck, I know its different for adult but Im 15 so not so strict but I don't want to gain or get unhealthy before practice next week. thoughts?
You could let the staff know that you have some food restrictions (gluten, dairy), but I wouldn't give them a huge list of foods unless it really is a problem. I work at a summer camp as a cook, and every year there are more kids with allergies/intolerances, so we do our best to accommodate. I don't know how fancy or rustic your camp is, but you might not want to bring things like nuts into your cabin - it could attract squirrels and other animals, or (more) bugs. If you want snacks, maybe something like jerky? Don't worry about the food too much though, enjoy camp! It's one of the greatest times of the year.
Just make sure to give the camp time to prep for you! If you don't give enough notice, you'll be doing a lot more grains and sugars than you planned on. But most of all, just enjoy yourself, and don't stress about food. You're young :)
