I've been on paleo for nearly three months now, and over the past few weeks I've noticed that around one day a week I feel ghastly - loose stools, fatigue, tummy in knots and just generally yuk. I've just realised that it's tied in to the time we started having a roast every Sunday night, with everything cooked in lots of animal oils/fats. And around Mon night/Tues that's when the loose stools begin. I'm finding I'm also shying away from oily fish and craving bland foods, such as steamed chicken, bananas, squash, etc. Anything that has no oil in it!
Could all the animal fat be causing the tummy distress? I'm underweight as it is, and every time I have another one of these episodes I lose more weight. Help!
Are you eating any soluble fiber in your diet generally (i.e. starchy veg, rice, bananas)? Personally I find that helps kind of "soak up" the fat in my diet. Otherwise yes fat can definitely cause loose stools.
The answer is that too much fat too quickly causes steatorrhea Fiber has very little to do with it. You could have a higher fiber, low (available) carb diet - i.e. a ton of broccoli, and very high fat and still have loose stools.
