Paleo Board, There have been several posts about finding paleo jerky for sale online. Any developments on this front?

Glenn, Yes! I know Robb Wolf's paleo brands frozen dinners got dinged here for being a bit small and pricey, and I don't know how much they will charge for this, but I would pay a fair amount for tastey, low salt, grass-fed jerky!

Make your own. Get some meat, slice it fine, pat it dry, salt lightly, and stick in the oven on the lowest setting with the door propped open slightly, leave it for several hours.

Voila, jerky, and so easy even a caveman...

could do it lol – Curiosity in HS May 25 2011 at 0:35
Been doing this for a couple months, I usually make about 3 pounds of starting weight at a time and end up with a LARGE ziplock bag full of grass fed jerky for about 20 bucks. Just use any jerky recipe you fancy with grass fed beef and non-gluten seasonings/marinade. I'll never go back to store bought now that I've perfected my craft. SO much cheaper and tastier. – Nutritionator Jun 27 2011 at 3:40

Great 100% grass fed jerky available through www.uswellness.com I get all our meat there and the jerky and beef sticks. Everything has been top quality and their customer service is great.

I'm addicted to those beef sticks. – gilliebean Jul 13 2010 at 16:57
Thanks for mentioning the beef sticks. I have been wanting to pull the trigger on some of those, they seem like a perfect snack. – RicoPags May 24 2011 at 20:32

I've also purchased jerky and other goodies from USWellness. To tell you the truth, I didn't like the jerky all that much. Mine was pretty gamey and it was really, really dry. On the other hand, their beef sticks are FANTASTIC! They're like a Slim Jim only with grass-fed beef and spices and not all that processed junk. I've also bough their shredded beef (awesome), spice rub (awesome), turkey/provolone sausage (good), honey (good), and cheese (TERRIBLE!). The prices are OK though and they ship very quickly so give them a shot.

Really really really appreciate this answer! Would upvote if my account was leet enough. I can tell you aren't a shill for them since you knock the jerky, but the beef sticks have definitely interested me. Have you tried their pemmican? – RicoPags May 24 2011 at 20:33

I made my own as well using this method: http://www.rawpaleoforum.com/display-your-culinary-creations/lex%27s-$10-beef-jerky-maker-and-recipes/

My documentation with photos: http://lowcarbnorthwest.com/?p=149

Clean-up is definitely easier than a dehydrator (which I own as well), plus you can control the spices/ingredients. I always get fantastic results and it's extremely cost effective.

I'd echo to steer clear of DickStevens. I ordered paleo cookies on May 25th and have YET to receive them even after jeff himself sworeeeeeeeeeee multiple times that he would personally pack my order and ship them the very next day himself.

I requested finally a shipping confirmation number as well as a tracking number to verify something had actually shipped and geee imagine that - he stopped responding to my calls and emails and then my emails started bouncing.

I have as of today requested a refund and have reported him to the better business bureau. When I get a refund (which I am assuming will be months seeing how all the reports I've found today seem to show that he delays refunds as long as he can) I will post an update to let the record show how responsive they are.

BTW - the reason I kept being given for my order being delayed?

The reason my cookies were delayed was because "there was a shortage of grass-fed beef". When I demanded in every communication an explanation about WHY a BEEF shortage would impact a COOKIES o*only* order, the question was (of course!) ignored.

The reality is any company ought to be able to fulfill an order on a dozen stupid cookies within a 3 month period. And if they had actually sent out EVERY order they said they were going to - at least ONE of them would have made it to me.

This company is a scam. Put your money into a reputable company that actually WANTS their customers to return and have a long-term POSITIVE business experience with their customers, is my advice.

So hey Jeff, yup it's me Alyssa again posting my experience with your company here as well as everywhere else. Check it out, it's like I told you in my last email - YOU decide how your company writes this final chapter with me. Do you try to screw me around, or do you show some integrity? YOU decide how you come out looking with your experience with me. Do I report back here tonight or tomorrow that I was refunded? Or months from now? It's your call bud, the ball is in your court. I'll merely report the truth, so you decide what the truth of the ending of my experience with you and your company is going to be.

I'd prefer to report today or tomorrow that my money is back in the bank. I'd like to still think you weren't a complete jerk and scam, but I'm not really holding my breath on it this time. lol. Kinda hope you prove me wrong, but we shall see what we shall see.

hey Paleo_Gal. It probably would be easier to try and make your own cookies. It sounds like you were ripped off or they were incompetent. I mean they don't even list the ingredients of the Almond Raisin cookies I'm looking at on their site. What if someone has an allergy to something in the cookie. Or are the only ingredients almond flour and raisins, that doesn't sound that delicious. – Stancel Aug 29 2010 at 5:45

BTW ... he now has been given a "F" grade by the BBB:

Keep it up folks!! Document this scam!

I sent off for one of the "samples" months ago, heck, almost a year ago. Nothing... – Joshua May 24 2011 at 20:44

Best bet is to make your own. Do some googling on companies before you order and read EVERY COMMENT, not just the first few that a company will post about their own product. Dick Stevens aka Jeff Eckert apparently takes your money but doesn't deliver. In fact, in his latest fiasco he told his customer Pam Munson (a CrossFit affiliate owner) that he hopes she dies in a fiery car crash: http://www.matthewmunson.com/archives/55 WTF?

That is so funny! It is almost unbelievable. I went to the site and ordered just for kicks and I got my order right-away! I wont order again, although it was great, I was just curious. I work for Amex. If you dont get something online just dispute it with your credit card, it takes 5 minutes. – Cindy Nov 22 2010 at 17:47

Get a jerky gun at Walmart and use ground beef. Put in oven on 150-200 for 4-5 hours.

without any spice mixture or liquid added? Just shoot the ground beef out? the oven technique definitely works, I've done that, but wouldn't it be pretty gross just as boring beef? – CraftyCrofts Jun 26 2011 at 10:11

Dont purchase anything from DICK STEVENS!!! I purchaed some caveman mix and never recieved it. Jeff sent me numerous emails saying my order was shipped and never showed up. I finially got my money back last week after asking numerous times.

I'd stick with Steve's club aka paleokits!

It is too bad, I really did like like the caveman mixes from Dick Stevens better, but agree (see above) the customer service is horrible and I think they have some major issues with telling the truth! The paleo kits are a little moist for me, but man Steve has outstanding customer service, fix a problem order within a day, and it all goes to a great cause! The Paleo Krunch is crazy good, watch out though, it is addictive! – Ian G Jul 21 2010 at 21:04
Had the same experience with Dick Stevens (Jeff Eckert) I finally got my money back through Paypal's buyer protection. Jeff never credited my account like he said. :-( – W8liftinmom Jul 22 2010 at 5:51

And as of today - I still have not been refunded.

He's been a complete and total jerk to me as well - he is quite a hateful and nasty little vermin. I have reported him to the BBB and apparently judging by what pops up on Google - LOTS of people have been ripped off.

Steer very very clear from this company or any company that man is behind - it's a total and complete scam as far as I am concerned.

If you've been ripped off, then dispute the charge with your CC company. – Travis Culp Jan 5 2011 at 20:08

Just to keep this current - STILL nary a penny in terms of a refund from Dick Stevens Nuts for the product that I ordered and never received.

Didn't think that he WOULD - but I will keep reporting it until the day that he actually refunds every penny, and then - I will HONESTLY report that he gave me back the money that he STOLE from me. (cuz at this point, he's a blatant fraud, cheat, and thief in my opinion and experience as well as a generally nasty little troll).

At this point, I might consider adding interest! ;)

Good luck with the interest! – Casey May 24 2011 at 19:57

I just got some from this online company, caveman mixes, not bad, anyone else try it? Its Dick Stevens or something www.dickstevensnuts.com

how many times have your oredered and how long did it take to receive them? I haven't gotten my order of 20 caveman mixes in 5 weeks! I keep getting the run-around! – W8liftinmom Jun 24 2010 at 7:35
I had an order delivered within 3 weeks about 3 months ago, I placed another order on June 5th and have received and heard nothing, I finally got a reply after three emails and two voicemails and letting them know I would be reporting them to my attorney general for fraud. They charge your cc when you order, NOT when they ship. After I heard about the "Pam Situation (above)" I started contacting them to cancel. They claim they will refund me but, who knows. The bad thing is that I really enjoyed their product, but the customer service and shadiness is too much! – Ian G Jul 21 2010 at 21:02
Nice First Post, Michael... :-/ – Joshua May 24 2011 at 20:47

From the Paleo brands website:

When meat is lean, it actually lowers your cholesterol levels and because grass fed meat is so lean, it is lower in calories. The greater the fat content, the greater the number of calories. Although grass fed meat is low in bad fats (including saturated fat and trans fats), it gives you from two to six times more of a type of good fat called "omega-3 fatty acids."

Who wrote that? Goes against a lot of Paleo principles.

I make my own jerky, but Steve's Original should be selling its Grass-fed Just Jerky product pretty soon.

The Buffalo Guys buffalo jerky is EXCELLENT. No nasty ingredients, great smoky flavor, not even very dry and 2 grams of sugar in 2 over 2 oz. Hard to beat for those of us who seriously watch our sugar intake.

Buffalo guys is good but I noticed one time while reading that it is chopped and formed. I like Tanka Bites.

Okay ... my update ...

I finally after numerous emails to the BBB and investigators on this case received a refund from a Mike McDermott on behalf of KBR foods.

So it took from May 25, 2010 to August 1, 2011 to receive ANY kind of satisfaction from this company.

BTW I had to dispute the whole reason why my order was not fulfilled, Jeff Eckert was saying to the BBB right up to the end that the reason why I did not get my order of COOKIES was because there was a shortage of grass fed BEEF.

He and KBR foods have NEVER explained how a BEEF shortage would affect a single order of cookies to this date.

So yes, I finally got a refund - after countless phone calls, non stop insults from Jeff Eckert for having the nerve to expect to get something for my money, and numerous emails to the authorities and documenting my HONEST and TRUTHFUL experiences with Jeff and KBR Foods everywhere online there was a discussion about their products.

So even though I got a refund 15 months after ordering for the first time, I would STRONGLY urge people to NOT spend their money with ANY company Jeff Eckert is a part of.

I found his conduct unprofessional, slimy, immature, hostile, passive-aggressive, malicious, misleading, unethical, dishonest and nasty in every aspect. Getting a refund does NOT erase the past 15 months of obnoxious juvenile behavior that has so clearly been documented by his own conduct online and by trying to bury the truth by posting stupid stuff pretending to be other people, like we all can't figure out who it really is.

Steer FAR FAR FAR away from this man and anything he has dealings with is my best advice borne of my personal and direct experience with him extensively over the past 15 months.

IMO, he has earned EVERY warning and bad reference you find out there if you google him or Dick Stevens Nuts. Consider yourselves warned!

Now we will just see if anything goes wrong with the refund ... I just don't trust this guy at all ...

Re the original post: The link has changed to http://shop.evolvefoods.com/product-p/snax-011.htm but just curious why you'd buy a 2.0 oz package from evolvefoods for $6 when you can get the same from US wellness for $2.89?

Anyone that still needs a refund can send an email to refunds@dickstevensnuts.com We have sent emails to every customer and we have a voice mail set up with refund instructions. To simplify matters we are issuing checks for everyone that wants a refund, we are sending the refund with samples of our cookies, possibly our lame attempt to win you back someday. We are very sorry we got ahead of ourselves and had supply issues with the grass fed beef. We hope someday you forgive us. :o(

And this beef shortage affects a cookie ONLY order for 3 months .... WHY? Please. You aren't going to save yourself by posting junk like this on the net - what would SAVE you would be FULFILLING THE ORDERS. gasp What a concept - giving the customer what they PAID for ... and MAYBE doing that in a shorter time spam than say .... THREE months. Wow. Seriously how hard IS that?? It's not because you are so busy being successful, because that would require sending out product. And yes, I requested my refund. I'm going to start a pool to see when I will actually receive it. – Paleo_Gal Aug 29 2010 at 3:09
