I usually eat fatty cuts of lamb for most meals, but have been mixing it up with pork chops or chicken thighs occasionally, but I'm finding myself really preferring the lamb. Is there any reason at all to eat different types of meat if you are content with ruminant meat for every meal?

Great question! I would love to have there be some indicator that they are somehow worthwhile. Chicken is so easy to throw in the oven. As a side note, any time I watch one of these survival shows (Dual Survival, Man vs. Wild, Survivorman, etc.) the game of choice for the survivors "lost" in the wilderness is often small animals, including turkeys, wild boar, etc. I don't think I've ever watched one of those shows' episodes wherein the character(s) hunt down a ruminant! – familygrokumentarian Feb 5 2011 at 0:08
Remember, these guys are out there with skills, that by a hunger gatherer comparison, are really quite poor. PLus they don't have a clan with them to help hunt and kill. And they don't know much about their environment. They are not in the position to thrive or even live like a truely successful huntergatherer. – Eva Feb 5 2011 at 5:46

Chicken and pork have L-Cysteine, a non-essential amino acid that has been attributed to the healing properties of chicken soup. It's an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory.

Plus, chicken and pork are tasty.

" Chicken and pork have L-Cysteine, a non-essential amino acid". Non essential meaning we synthesize our own. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Unless one is lucky enough to aquire pasture raised chicken the things they sell in the stores are barely 7 or 8 weeks old and taste like wet cotton IMO – sienna Feb 5 2011 at 20:56

I don't think so. I believe red meat is the ideal meat, and both pork and chicken should be eaten sparingly. The only thing missing from your diet, I believe, would be variety, but who cares lamb is extremely good and I never get tired of it, expensive though.
