No candy, cookies, cake, chips, soda, ice cream, chocolate,no white bread or fast food. I have given these things up and I am in pain. i have leg cramps even my eyeballs hurt. I no longer have the headaches though. I am in my fourth day. Does it get better?
I started about a month ago. The first day or two I had headaches. Then for the next few days I dealt with intestinal bloating. After that for about a week I had unusual stool, as if my body was trying to figure out how to make it with the new diet. Now I'm feeling great, regular BMs which are well formed but more compact than the grain based ones. My energy level is more constant, and some of my eczema has cleared up. When I get hungry, I feel it in my stomach, but it never gives me a headache.
You likely need some electrolytes--the cramps, the fog, etc.--that's all about magnesium, potassium, calcium and sodium shortage. Yeah, you're detoxing, but we forget that when the sugar/carbs leave, so does water, and when the water leaves, so do the electrolytes. That is the main reason for carb flu.
I suggest you start drinking water with a couple of small pinches of salt, then take magnesium at night/in the afternoon; calcium and potassium in the morning. You will notice a major difference in a very short amount of time.
Sounds like the low carb flu. I went through it when I started paleo from a high carb runner's diet. It lasted about 2 weeks, I struggled with headaches, joint and muscle aches, insomnia, exhaustion. Check out this blog post on MDA: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/low-carb-flu/
