As a type one diabetic myself I have a goal of getting my glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) under 5.0. I'm curious if any other diabetics have accomplished such a feat?
Pre-paleo I was hovering around 7.0. After 8 weeks of paleo and tighter control of my blood sugars I went down to 6.5 - an improvement to be sure, but not as much as I had hoped for. I'm up for a new round of lab tests soon.
Has anyone had even more success? If so I'd love to hear your tips.
I am now Type 3...Type 2 burning out the betas to become Type 1. Also called double Diabetes. After BS over 800 at diagnosis, I wandered in the ADA desert for 8 years. My BS and A1c thru the roof. Then I read Dr. Bernstein's book...http://www.diabetes-book.com/...read this. It is mandatory! My A1c dropped to 5.3 then into the 4.6-4.9 range currently. I have to eat ultra low carb and take H insulin and Levemir at night. My dosages of insulin are less than a "normal" person produces. Dr. Bernstein shoots for an A1c of 4.3-4.6 and he hits it. He is almost 80 now with no diabetic complications. Then read Dr. Ron Rosedale and everything you can to understand the role of Insulin and its inherent dangers. To keep BS and Insulin low and Leptin low and Mtor low you must eat ...high fat, moderate protein and LOW carb. See my web where I try to explain Dr. Bernstein and Rosedale in an easy read. www.tribaldiabetics.com. Good luck, you are now part of a community (Paleo Hacks) that will give you the REAL information that will save your life. You have to pass it on and spread the word as payment for being saved. Hallelujah!!!! Praise the lard...Can I get a Holy pat of butter here brother...yeah!
The fact that your A1C has dropped while eating paleo indicates you still have some insulin T cells that are secreting some insulin. Just keep on doing what you are doing and do not cheat...at all and your fasting blood glucose will get down to 95-100 and then you can kiss your drugs goodbye....of course under the guidance of your physician.
I've been type one since I was 8 (going on 15 years now)... my A1c results vary in the 6-8 range, and since my last test result (8.2!!! ugh!) I've been on paleo almost 100%. I can't wait to see how my next one goes because my blood sugars have been so much more stable lately. (It probably helps that I'm actually tracking them now, too... ha)
I am a type 1, I just started paleo and i'm at an a1c of about 7.0! So glad if found this post, my first goal is a 6.5. Thanks for being a motivation. I'm currently reading Dr. Bernstein's book. Any advice on what really worked for you?
