I just love eating bones. Canned salmon with bones, roasted beef marrow, and the spine of a rotisserie chicken is my favorite part... After making bone broth, I'll sit down to a nice big bowl of... bones. But it's times like these- eating bones with my hands with my chest freezer full of meat close by, that I think "something is either very right or very wrong..."

Any other bone lovers?

Are you talking about eating the marrow, making broth, etc. or actually eating the bones? I've never tried actually eating the bones. Do you do anything in particular to prepare them? – Dale Feb 9 2011 at 12:56

If bones are boiled for long enough (say, 8-24 hours) then they become very delicate and crispy and entirely edible. Or so it seems- I've never had difficulty digesting them. I haven't tried eating the actual bones of anythng larger than a turkey, though. Also, the ends of the large bones as well as the spine of a roasted or rotisseried bird are soft and edible. – LiveBigger Feb 9 2011 at 13:05
Hmmm...I'll have to try that. I love the marrow from beef bones and making stocks out of chicken carcass. – Dale Feb 9 2011 at 13:13
mmmmmm...home canned salmon bones are the best - they make the most awesome crunch – Thumper Feb 9 2011 at 22:59

Beautiful: A bowl of soft bones and cartilage left over from making gelatin with pig trotters. Those nights are amazing!

More regularly I gnaw on lamb bones after being cooked with their meat, and then in some cases consume them after being softened in the process of making stock.

Ditto..!! and lots of Goat marrow bones, in a crockpot with powdered black pepper, cumin, cloves, coriander, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and mace - some salt and a bay leaf and a cup of yogurt left for a few (about 8) hours is a trip to heaven. One can even chew the bones.

love the chicken at grocery store delis that has been sitting there on heat all day. Sometimes the bones are so cripsy all of it can be eaten. I wish I could buy a can of salmon bones! I was a dog in a previous life.

I eat the bones from long-simmered chicken stock. Nice and easy to chew with marrow inside. Yum!

I have never intentionally eaten a bone; cheese stands alone I guess!

I love eating bones, but I never eat them soft enough, so my digestion suffers.

I make the bone broth.

I render the fat for the cooking.

I eat the liver. And the heart.

I stew and curry the fatty cuts.

I love the marrow.

But eat the bones? I'm just not sure on that one... :)

Anything that comes with its bones in makes my eyes beam!

Saturday was my favourite day in the week when I was a child - because my mome usually made bone broth with all those yummie bones exclusively for me!
