Dried Coconut vs Coconut Oil? Is dried UNSWEETENED coconut considered a carb? I would assume it has the same MCT properties as coconut oil but just not as concentrated?
Is dried UNSWEETENED coconut considered a carb?
By calories, this food contains approximately:
4 percent protein
4 percent carb
92 percent fat
In other words, this food consists mostly of fat, but also a small amount of carbs and a small amount of protein.
I would assume it has the same MCT properties as coconut oil but just not as concentrated?
They contain the same medium chain triglycerides (MCT). Coconut oil contains more of them but the difference isn't that great.
100 calories of coconut oil contain:
0.87 g of C8:0 (caprylic acid)
0.70 g of C10:0 (capric acid)
100 calories of dried coconut contain:
0.68 g of C8:0 (caprylic acid)
0.54 g of C10:0 (capric acid)
I suspect that some people may be sensitive to the additives in some canned coconut milk. I buy frozen coconut milk with no additives. I've not experienced any symptoms from coconut oil. I have had bad reactions to coconut ice cream. I think that had guar gum in it and that may have been the problem. I actually got vertigo shortly after eating it and then loose bowels.
Please help me find frozen coconut milk. I consume canned like it is going out of style, but would love higher quality stuff. I live in atlanta. Oh and in answer to this question, you can injest unlimited amounts of raw coconut. It is about he dame as sosonut oil but plus fiber and stuff.
Make your own coconut milk. I have not done it yet but will be experimenting Thursday if I have time. I buy shredded coconut on amazon for a measly 10 cents per serving which gives you 110 calories.
This is the cheapest paleo food I consume! One of the reviews states 2 ways on how to make homemade coconut milk from the shredded coconut. I will be trying the stove top method. All you need is shredded coconut and hot water! You can make a coconut cream too.
