I've recently begun renting out my spare room on airbnb.com (it's been great, btw). But I have one thing that's been bothering me, the second "b"- breakfast. According to the site, you don't have to provide breakfast, so I haven't. Yet, I think it would be a nice touch, and wonder if people are expecting it.
In the past, I would provide a continental breakfast, (pastries, cereal, bagels), and that would be very easy, certainly. But, I don't feel right about feeding people something that would be bad for their health. And I don't have the time to cook them a good breakfast. And don't know if they'd like what I would cook.
The simplest thing would be a bowl of fruit and/or berries, some nice plain full-fat yogurt, hard-boiled eggs and hot water for tea (*sigh* okay and coffee, I suppose). Everyone from the uber-vegan to the uber-paleo could find something to eat.
Cold cuts of meat (very European...) Ham, salami, etc
And for those who take dairy - some unsweetened natural yogurt, and a selection of cheeses
Berries and some other fresh fruit as mentioned by several others.
Smoked salmon and cream cheese (without the bagel)
All items that require no cooking and could be easily put out in the morning with minimal preparation time.
Probably go with something like eggs, with a few strips of bacon (fat drained), along with either a berry/fruit salad or some sauteed mushrooms or steamed veggies like broccoli, radishes, or spinach. Try to make it not too greasy, because they probably will think fat is bad still. You can do a lot of different combinations I imagine.
I would also go with some free range scrambled eggs, with some Nitraite free bacon, or wild shrimp, could also cute up apple and have some almond butter for dipping sprinkled with cinnamon......put out a bowl full of mixed berries and bowl of mixed seeds and nuts, but no peanuts...also cut up some advacados
you could also put out some organic unsweetend apple sauce, and cut up raw veggies....raw veggies are quicker then cooking and have more nutrients...
Id say this is all a good variety for your guests to choose from a selection of healthy paleo
I am SOOOO happy when my continental breakfast at least offers hard boiled eggs. Since this can be done the night before and hold well, I think you could offer that with some coffee...Good to go.. (and for vegan people--a bagel with the little cream cheese packets.)
Well if you provide some healthy foods, they at least have the option. Then you could also add maybe some bagels for the carb eaters. Plus just hot coffee would make a lot of people very happy. Many people just really want to suck down their coffee and that is the primary motivator. Beyond that, I would pay attention to what patrons say and look for patterns.
