This is my 4th week doing paleo. Currently I am eating lacto-paleo (raw cream, raw cultured butter and Ghee). Mostly grassfed meat/ fats (coconut and dairy mentioned above) and some greens. I am trying to heal my gut from years of low fat/no red meat diet & lose my last 10 pounds for GOOD!. Def gained weight so far but I am going to give this at least 3 months Dont have much carb cravings --and when I do I eat sometype of fat and it is gone. I will be cutting out the dairy shortly -- just trying to use what I have and not to buy anymore-no stomach issues with dairy but want to lose these last 10 pounds. Would love to hear if people have had success cutting out dairy and losing weight? Also was thinking about adding more macadamia nuts (soaked and/or sprouted) AFTER no more dairy, has nuts stalled your weight loss?

Nuts personally stalled my weight loss. I had to cut all forms of them and fruits now, ecept I eat Tomato (technically a fruit). What percentage of your daily intake is carbs?

I have "issues" with counting calories--tend to get WAY over stressed out about it. But I have not been eating too many carbs at all--salads or maybe cooked spinach and def not eveyday. Benn trying to keep carbs low for at least the 1st onth and then re evaluate and add more next month – KL Feb 15 2011 at 19:29
i certainly am not one to count the calories but i plug it into fitday everyonce in a while to guide me. It was then plus the guidance of this site that showed me i was eating too many carbs. – paleoprimal Feb 16 2011 at 3:44
I would second Theresa's advice to do a fitday entry every few days. It wasn't till I did that that I realized a) I wasn't eating a high enough ratio of FAT and b) I wasn't eating enough calories. It is possible that the weight gain is due to too much protein, not too much carbs. That's why you shouldn't be afraid to eat fat, at least 70% of your calories. – dorchid11 May 11 2011 at 18:08
To clarify, don't be afraid to eat fat, otherwise you may find yourself overdoing the protein. – dorchid11 May 11 2011 at 18:09

Sounds like you should be fine. Give it some time, let your body adjust. Make sure your getting enough sleep, and not too much exercise. I personally noticed weight stalls with too much dairy or too many nuts, but not when consumed in moderation.

Best of luck :)

Speaking of leaning into this thing, I did it really, really slowly, over a period of 2 months or so. Wheat products went first, but I still ate oatmeal and some (but not much) quinoa and beans. Oatmeal was the next to go, after about a month and my oatmeal supply was all eaten up (I hate to waste stuff!). Finally, the rest went.

That was my journey and it went smoothly. By the time I was virtually 100%, I was in the habit completely. I must confess to over-reliance on nuts, but that seems to be a common element here. I probably still over-indulge in them on occasion to this day. I try to do my best, which means I'm really close to 100%, but I'm not going to be too rough on myself if I fall short from time to time.

2 months is not slow at all! It took me two years to make the transition. I think too many people try to flip a switch and instantly become paleo and they fail miserably because it's too much too soon. I like your attitude about not being rough on yourself when you fall short of perfection. That will serve you well. Congratulations on a job well-done! – Shari Bambino May 11 2011 at 3:52

"Leaning into Paleo Lifestlye" - - - wasn't it supposed to be "Leaning on Paleo Lifestyle"...)...?

i prefer leaning into, it reminds me of riding my bicycle and leaning into a turn. – tartare Apr 27 2011 at 3:27

I find that if I eat too much of even things that are Paleo my weight loss will stall out. I can easily polish off a can of coconut milk or a cup of heavy cream per day. Per Taubes et al. I don't believe in "calories-in, calories-out" per se, but my personal experience is that, at some point, calories do matter.
