As of January 1st, I started eating Paleo (PaNu) style. I am down 14 lbs (194 to 180) and definitely seeing other positive changes. Just this week I had a regularly scheduled physical and had some blood work done. Amongst the many metrics, the one I was specifically interested in seeing a "significant" change was my High Sensitivity CRP number since I have some concerns about CVD given family history, etc.

I was a bit surprised it hardly budged at all - ever so slightly lower but not much - 5.5 down to 5.4, with <4.9 considered "good".

1) Am I being too impatient in expecting more of a change? 2) Are there better metrics that I should be looking at?

FYI on other metrics - Age 41 - Fasting glucose 84 - Total Glycated HGB 5.7 - Calc HA1C 5.1 - LDL 138 - HDL 40 - Total Cholesterol 201 - Triglycerides 115

Thanks, Aravind

did the lab provide you the margin of error on the tests performed? fro example, your HbA1C level has a 10-15% margin of error! – Cheryl - Diabetes Bootcamp Feb 18 2011 at 1:04

Check again in another few months. 6 weeks isn't alot of time depending on how long your body chemistry was in an unfavorable zone. Other ways you might notice changes - quantity and quality of sleep, ability to recover from cuts & bruises, skin quality (face and body). Those are kinda qualitative, but sometimes lab values cannot quantify how you really feel.

Since you're losing weight, pufas might be released from your fat cells. This would counterbalance some of the antiinflammatory effects of paleo. I've heard it can take up to 2 years for this to go away.

Wow 2 years! Are there other metrics you would look at that would have more meaning in the interim? – Aravind Feb 18 2011 at 1:27
