Presuming you wont allow the CocoNUT, then from an Omega 6 standpoint, here are 1/4 cup totals

Macadamias – 0.5 g

Cashews – 2.6 g

Hazelnuts – 2.7 g

Pistachio – 4.1 g

Almonds – 4.36 g

Pecans – 5.8 g

Brazil nuts – 7.2 g

Walnuts – 9.5 g

Pine nuts – 11.6 g

Melissa's additions

European Chestnuts- 0.2775 grams (Asian chestnuts have even less)

Ginko nuts are about equal to chestnuts.

This may be a stupid question-- i know all nuts contain carbs -- but aren't cashew very high in carbs? – KL Feb 18 2011 at 16:28
if youre worried about carbs, presumably for leaning out, id avoid nuts entirely. Cashews are about 10g per ounce. – Stephen-Aegis Feb 18 2011 at 16:35

I thought cashews were legumes, like peanuts. Maybe I am wrong, I am pretty sure most people don't allow them. – oliverh Feb 18 2011 at 16:36
Yes, I love cashews, but my trainer who has me on a strict paleo diet says to nix the cashews. – Libby Feb 18 2011 at 16:38

These totals don't mention the ratio of Omega 6s to Omega 3s. For example, while you note that almonds have less Omega 6s than walnuts, walnuts have a better ratio. – WyldKard Feb 18 2011 at 17:05

Ned Kock at Health Correlator has a good breakdown: http://healthcorrelator.blogspot.com/2010/12/nuts-by-numbers-should-you-eat-them-and.html

Almonds would be my next choice, all things considered (not looking strictly at omega-6).

unfortunately, they not only arent next best, theyre way down the list. in addition, theyre one of the highest in Tannins.not something that sits friendly on most peoples digestion. – Stephen-Aegis Feb 18 2011 at 16:21

How is it way down the list if it has a favorable Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio? – WyldKard Feb 18 2011 at 17:07

If it looks like a nut, has a nutritional profile like a nut and you eat it like a nut, I call it a nut: pumpkin seed kernel
