Dried fruit is great!
But...
It is quite easy to down a HUGE whack of carbs with dried fruit. That is, you still have to watch yourself. I reserve dried fruit for times when food is scarce, like hiking and camping. I know that my body can handle a little bit more carbs at these times. If your going paleo to lose weight, I would suggest avoiding dried fruit until you've achieved your desired level of leanness. Dried fruit can easily prevent you from ever pushing you through the wall in the transition period. Get your body converted over to fat for energy, then put a little dried fruit back in where appropriate. Trying to solve hunger pangs by snacking on dried fruit can stop progress dead in its tracks.
Don't forget that "paleo" eating can be done wrong. You could eat mangoes all day and it's "paleo" if you're just looking at the type of food you eat. Regulating your insulin sensitivity is just as important as avoiding inflammatory foods. Thankfully, once you've got your hormones all back in the correct balance, you will be eating less food than you were before, especially if you're on the weight loss track. Hit the low hanging fruit first. Cut out grains/legumes/dairy. Throw in some Vit D and fish oil supplements and you're good to go!
What are your goals? Being new to all this, have you poked around the "main" sites like Robb Wolf's, Loren Cordain's, Mark's Daily Apple, etc.? They all have TONS of valuable info to sift through on almost any "paleo" topic you can think of.
Welcome to new-found health! :D haha. Enjoy your stay.
