I noticed when I eat corn kernals, I simply do not digest them in any way. They come out looking exactly the same as when they entered. I thought this was weird until I met someone else who said the same happens with her for any type of corn, even ground up bits of corn, cornbread, etc. I have the same thing with small seeds, like sesame seeds, but I suspect that might be more normal. None of these foods seem to cause any other percievable problems, nor does my digestion seem upset. They simply pass through untouched, but no apparent other side effects. You would think some bacteria in the large intestine would get to work on the corn or something, but apparently not. Anyone else have this with corn, seeds, or some other food?
Yeah, with quinoa, corn, and wild rice in particular. We aren't ruminants: our bodies have a tough time breaking down the plant cell walls. Maybe if you eat this crap all the time you get more bacteria that can help deal with it or maybe it's genetic(my parents don't digest this stuff either), but the human digestive system can only do so much to fodder. I don't have this problem when the grain in question is fermented, ground, or soaked though. If I did I might worry about having too little HCL in my stomach and I might take a acid supplement after meals.
I'm not sure which food did it, but recently I found myself depositing dark green stools - unless my zucchini/silverbeet/kale/whatever was carrying some crazy artificial colouring, I'd say something wasn't being completely broken down. I also find that if I overdo it on the fat, it can pass straight through me.
I also remember being painfully aware of the fact I'd eaten popcorn about a day after going to the movies... And, these days, when I don't bother scrapping the tails of prawns in my urgent devouring of their shrimpy goodness, I get slapped as they make their exit the next day. Erk.
Sunflower seeds, quinoa, brussel sprouts, sometimes carrots ... just ick.
I used to think that these were caloric freebies - eat as much as you want, because so little will be digested, but now I know better. For me at least, dealing with these undigestables puts my body under a lot of stress until.
But I think this is the whole concept of low-carb pasta? Add some plastic filler that will come back undigested?
Dang, I got a bunch of carrots, and now I am turning the pot orange. I stopped eating corn as much as I could, then I bought carrots and had carrot cake, so I noticed orange strips in the pot after my delivery of waste, and figured it was just the carrot cakes fake carrot stuff, then I realized I thought wrong when I delivered shattered carrot ships to the pot sea, lol .
