I was looking over my car emergency kit and I realized that very little of the food in it was paleo. I have a few cans of tuna and things like that, but mostly it's freeze-dried, over-processed junk. I'm sure I'll be fine if I have to eat junk for a few days, but what paleo foods will keep in my trunk for a long time (years) and still be edible?

I would worry about storing canned goods - let alone dried meats and pemmican - in a car with wildly fluctuating temperatures. I know my car goes from as low as 35F to well over 100F in Southern California and even water tastes funny after a couple weeks. This may be one of the few reasons to keep techno-industrial foods around. |

Water and cash. Anything else would quickly rot 8 months out of the year where I live. |

What's in my emergency kit? A mirror, of course! Just adore my new paleo body. Narcissism you say? Considering the alternative which was decades long, I don't think so. ;) |

Is there truly a paleo food which can last years? I think dark chocolate would be the best bet, I could live on that for a few days ;) I probably would have to keep replenishing the supply though and knowing my luck, if I had anything else of a tinned nature to open, I would forget to have packed a can opener. Although I did see a lovely youtube video the other day; great if you like wild rabbit and Old Gloucester pork meatballs ready cooked in a packet ;) |

Avocados- lots also some coconut BUTTER are the two basic staples I can carry with me. I try not to eat away from my kitchen if possible but when I have to ( vacation, road trips, etc) I try to get some good IF afterwords. Acocados rule. |
