I have been the same weight (240) for 6+ months +/- 5 pounds or so. From here I can gain as I want easily. I can have a couple carbs and pack on as much as 9 pounds in a weekend, and I can lose all that in a few days, but I seem to keep coming back. I am type II diabetic so that may have something to do with it, and I feel great, and it isn't the plateau that is interesting, it is that I am still losing size and that I look it too.

Many of the areas that were fatty before are now growing definition and I don't seem to be depositing any fat elsewhere. I don't do a whole bunch of exercise so I am not sure that I am gaining muscle. I look and feel better than when I weighed 230 10 years ago on a calorie restriction/high exercise diet.

I know I have more weight to lose but I am not really stressing about it at this point and am enjoying the better energy and health than I had when I was in my teens (I turn 38 this year).

It is just neat that even with this extended plateau that I am still losing size and fat and was wondering if others have noticed this happening to them and if anyone knows what is going on?

you can gain muscle with little to no exercise. who cares about weight if your clothes fit better? – Stephen-Aegis Mar 8 2011 at 2:04
I'm so glad to hear about this. I'm not losing weight as fast as what I would have wished for, and others seem to be losing it faster. This reminds me just to be patient. – Wozza Mar 8 2011 at 4:00
I am not sure if I am just moving into my skin or building muscle and bone like others have suggested, but my looks are noticeably different than a year ago when I was just a few pounds heavier. I am really curious if there is a mechanism for it or if I ma growing into the size I was meant to be or what. – Mikey Mar 8 2011 at 4:53
My wife has been "stuck" as well but every day I notice new divots in her neck and shoulders that were not there before. I am going through the same thing. I am beginning to think I was starving myself when I was fat and that things are getting to where they are supposed to be as far as my muscles and bones go. – Mikey Nov 20 2011 at 22:35

It really is fascinating isnt' it? I went from 325 to 220 then the scale didn't budge for a year but I lose two sizes in that time. Then, for some as yet unknown reason, the scale started to move again down to 180. Then another year and a couple of sizes then the scales moves yet again down to 155 where I hold still today.

Honestly I feel it was "the Universe" testing me as to whether I truly had changed or whether my supposed change was just something I was willing to do ("diet") in exchange for the number on the scale going down (as I had so many times before) To go a year without the numbers changing...most would never tolerate such a thing. But truly I decided that I knew the way I was eating was the right thing for me and my health and if I was going to stay fat then I was going to stay fat. I was willing to be happy for the 100 lb loss and leave it at that. It was almost as if I had to prove I really had changed my life before my body would give up any more fat. Silly I know but I have no explanation so this is what I cling to, lol.

Yes the scale is an important tool but not the only one in the toolbox. I'm thrilled you are doing so well and are able to see the forest for the trees. Stay the path and keep focusing on the positive changes you see and you will get where you want to be.

I was dismayed at first when my weight plateaued, but a year later the clothes I was wearing last year are too big. Even though the scale is basically the same. It has given me yet another reason to not give a damn about that number anymore...

Your improved nutrition allows the body to add to lean body mass, primarily muscle and bone. Your whole body is healing and getting stronger.

I have lost 16 inches off my torso, and have lost maybe 2 lbs. This has taken me 1 full year. I feel so much better. I look healthier, younger and so much smaller. I cant figure it out but I also believe that my body wants me to prove that I will not go back to my old ways. you know the Yoyo. I am almost 55 and feel better than I did 20 years ago. I will never go back to my old eating habits, it feels so good to not be having all the sugar cravings and always thinking about food

hah... i could have just as easily written this. i've been "stuck between 230 and 235 for the last 6 weeks or so. i'm not complaining because my waist size is still going down(down to a 36 and quickly approaching a 35). i do heavy lifting(really heavy) 2-3 days a week and eat 2-3 pounds of meat a day so i'm pretty sure it's lean mass i'm putting on.

My scale hasn't changed numbers in months (besides the 1-5 pound fluctuation now and then), but I have to tighten my belt or my pants--which used to fit snug--will fall right off me.

I could cut more from my diet and be more strict with paleo, but I feel good and am happy with my progress so I'm not too worried about it.

My weight is immovable but size has noticeably dropped. One person even asked me if I had gotten taller. Apparently leaner looks stretched out!
