I imagine that more than a few paleohackers are planning on going to this on the weekend of August 5th? Sure, it's way early, but let's talk cost and logistics.

As an east-coaster with no Los Angeles friends, or paleo friends for that matter, room-sharing sounds like a great idea to reduce quite extensive trip costs. Anybody else in the same boat?

Also, who would be up for a paleohackers meetup before the conference starts? I haven't requested vacation yet or bought a plane ticket, but it would be nice to know how many people are interested in meeting up for a nice, cold O'Doul's and some soft pretzels. (uh, I mean coconut milk and beef heart slices) Anyone know of a good paleo place to eat around the UCLA campus?

So...who's going, who's interested in a room share, and who's interested in a meet-up? And who's super-pumped?!!?

For those of you thinking of attending -- I recommend airbnb.com for sharing rooms or renting from locals. – Patrik Mar 8 2011 at 7:20
Hey, that's a cool website! – Kamal Mar 8 2011 at 15:19

Just for everyone else's knowledge here: we set up a fare alert on Kayak which worked beautifully for getting VERY inexpensive flight tickets to LAX. Two weeks ago, flights were $450-600 round trip from Pittsburgh to LA. This morning, we woke up to $165 round trip tickets. Hopefully, everyone else attending can benefit from Kayak's fare alert too. Saved the two of us some serious dough.

Thanks for the tip, lovers. – Kamal Mar 8 2011 at 3:26
Great idea, thanks! – Jules K Mar 8 2011 at 13:41
No problem! Happy to have found a travel service that is somewhat helpful! – The Food Lovers Mar 15 2011 at 18:01

Hey everybody- would it be helpful if I started a page on Facebook to give us a forum for working out logistics? Could call it "Meeting up at the Ancestral Health Symposium" or something like that.

That sounds good. Can you put a link to it here? – Kamal Mar 15 2011 at 23:04
Most definitely! – Jordan M. Mar 15 2011 at 23:18

I am SUPER pumped, and I think a meetup would be great! Luckily I have a hotel hookup, so I won't need a roomie, and I don't know anywhere good to eat near UCLA :(

I'm in for a meetup! I'd like to do something on the 2nd night though, because the first day I plan on getting there in the morning. I can't afford to spend too many nights.

I've emailed off the board with a couple of the girls to try and get a roomshare together. I haven't bought plane tickets yet either, but I hope to do so soon.

I'm still up for sharing if it makes sense, though as I said, I was going to do two nights. – gone2croatan Mar 16 2011 at 15:29
I know! I just have to get it together and figure it all out. $$ is an issue, but I know my bday is right before it, so I am hopeful. I need to bite the bullet and get my ticket, then I have to go! – sherpamelissa Mar 16 2011 at 17:41

YES YES YES! I've booked my flights from Australia already! Not sorted out accomodation or getting there from LAX yet...

All the way from Australia? Here's to you, Mrs. R. – Kamal Mar 8 2011 at 1:34
Wow. That's a long way to travel for the symposium! Impressive! – The Food Lovers Mar 8 2011 at 1:55
I didn't quite realise how long the flights were until I'd booked them! America seems to be the place to go - I can't imagine ever seeing something like this symposium in Australia. – Suz - Paleo Oz Mar 8 2011 at 3:14
I'm looking for someone to room with. I'm from Vermont (east coast usa) and am in process of buying a ticket off someone. Some places off of airbnb.com look so nice and fun. What I'm thinking right now is that I'd like to just stay out in California for longer than this event, maybe a week. Write back if you'd want to room! – Rud May 6 2011 at 15:38

PUMPED! I need to make a few phone calls and see if I can find a free place to stay / car to drive. Also, I need to check in with school and see if taking a day or two extra off will be okay. Let's do a meet-up for sure. I'm excited to be a around people who know more about this stuff than I do!

Hello everybody. My name is Nélio and I'm from Brazil. I got my flight tickets today so I'm definitely going to this symposium!!

I am on my own so I am really in for a meetup especially because we don´t have a strong paleo/primal community here, so would be nice to get to know you guys!

I still have no idea where to stay or where to look for.. but anyway I'll soon set myself somewhere!

As I've mentioned, I'll be there. I'm going to get a room for the two nights and then head off to stay with friends for the rest of the week; I plan to spend the weekend in full-on paleofriends mode. I'd also love to roomshare with ladies who are not serial killers.

"ladies who are not serial killers". so specific. gah. leave some room for variety. – Jack Kronk Apr 21 2011 at 21:27
I think any potential roomie should be more worried about her! (Having gandered at your Halloween activities...) – Dave S. Jun 8 2011 at 15:36
Hahaha, nice one, Dave! – gone2croatan Jun 8 2011 at 20:08

I just bought my ticket (system indicated there were only 44 tickets left so you might want to get on this if you haven't reserved a place at the symposium yet.) I'd love to meet up and maybe do a room share or something too.

...I'm currently being offered to buy someones ticket. I'm from new england though.. – Rud 2 Jun 16 2011 at 3:23

Hey guys,

I'm an MD from Arizona who just got his ticket and booked his flight to the Ancestral Health Symposium! I'm pumped beyond words, this is my passion in life. Alas, I'm a poor resident physician and am looking for a roomshare....any offers??? Can't wait to meet you all and have a blast at this conference.

I haven't booked a place to stay (or a flight, for that matter). When I get flights booked and travel plans arranged, I'll email you. Maybe we can get a couple more people to make it cheaper. – Kamal Jun 16 2011 at 2:56

I'm thinking about it. My sister lives in LA and it's definitely slow around work that time of year.

I have my ticked but I'm interning at Cressey Performance in Massachusetts all summer, so I'm not sure if I'll have the time or money to fly back to the west coast for a few days in August.

I would love to do a meet up though, and room share is a great idea.

My sister and I are probably going! Seeing if we can drag my brother and/or hubby along as well. And of course the boobie monster (aka baby). So I already have roommates. Would love some extracurriculars though. :)

This sounds like fun! I live in SoCal already, so I would be interested in a meetup.

I'm lucky to be able to take the train down from Sacramento. I won't fly anymore with all the b.s. about flying. There is a restaurant called Animal that sounds Paleo friendly.

I bought my ticket in January and have been forward to this for sooo long. I'm such a Paleo nerd, plus I live an hour's drive away and can crash at my uncles about the 20 minutes away from UCLA. I was also looking forward to meeting other Paleo-eaters. Unfortunately, money is tight! I'm considering selling it, but would only want to if someone is willing to pay around $300. That's how much it's worth to me. I understand its a non-profit thing, but I would rather take out a high-interest loan until my I get back to work in August than to sell my ticket for the price everyone paid for their $100 (except those lucky enough students that got their hands on the student tickets).

I'm a bit torn, ethically speaking. What do you think? Would anyone be interested?
