I saw this on Costco website

Not sure if they also have it in their warehouse but any Paleo ppl tried this b4? The website didn't specify the ingredients.

Thanks!

I was under the impression that game meat couldn't be sold and was actually farmed deer, boar etc., but that says wild boar, so I dunno. – Travis Culp Mar 9 2011 at 0:04

Yes, it is farmed animals and they don't disclose the source of the animals. Wild boar, confusingly, is the species, not whether or not it's wild. Farmed game eat some grains and some wild forage. Additionally, some of these sausages also contain regular pork and duck. So yeah, maybe a bit of an omega-6 splurge and it's kind of hilarious they say they are leaner than beef, but it's not like anyone is going to make this a dietary staple. I'd eat this 3-4 times a week. I bought a smaller quantity last year and LOVED the Venison & Cherry sausages. I wasn't such a huge fan of the Duck & Armagnac and thought it tasted like cat food. I might buy this and use that in stews or something...I've been meaning to use my membership.

Check out http://www.dartagnan.com/c5903/Product-Information.html

It appears that its referring to the type of meat, but not necessarily how it was raised. In the case of deer, theyre farmed.

Most of America's supply currently comes from New Zealand ranches and is marketed under the appellation Cervena

Overall, looks like a great company looking to produce Organic Sustainable meat. Im going to give it a shot if I see it next time im in Costco. Ill try to remember to post a review here.

D'Artagnan isn't really interested in sustainable and has gotten criticism because of lack of transparency. They are focused mainly on taste. I still buy from them, but they aren't my fav source. Even with the CC discount it's still quite expensive. – Bread-Eating Beelzebub Mar 9 2011 at 0:47
