Having just jumped on the band wagon of the Paleo crew and off that of the conventional bodybuilding style diet I would like to know if anyone has and ideas about what workout shakes(containing complete proteins) are useful. I hear tell old Vince Gironda mixed cream and whey together but I am averse to powdered protein(given the info I've recently discovered about its conversion to glucose, its cholesterolemic properties, its aspartame content or acesulfame-k content). Who out there makes a mean protein shake for after a workout that would be IDEALLY as inexpensive as possible in terms of time/$/effort?

Robb Wolf has mentioned making a shake out of whey and coconut milk. I tried it a few times, but I find that the Whole9 approach works better, for me (eating a easily absorbed protein accompanied by carrots, or sweet potato).

Have you thought about just a post workout meal?

raw egg smoothie, like Rocky, I have done this.

Personally, a proper meal works best - based around tubers and protein post work out. A steak with plantain / sweet potato / parsnip / beetroot / squash / potato is my preference.

I have great luck with some berries (blueberries/raspberries), an avocado, 4-5 eggs, and some raw butter
