I have two that I like to make, but I'm trying to come up with different mixtures that are still pretty Paleo.

Trail Mix#1: Organic Unsweetened Coconut Flakes, Organic Unsweetened dried cranberries, Raw Almonds and Organic Unsweetened Carob Chips. I go heavy on the coconut and very light on the carob.

Trail Mix#2: Organic Unsweetened Coconut Flakes, Unsweetened dried berry medley, TJs unsalted Macadamia Nuts and Organic Unsweetened Carob Chips. I go heavy on the coconut and very light on the carob.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious that might be even more delicious. I make up baggies on the weekend and it's my go to snack when I get too busy for a real meal.

Ideas?

Where do you find unsweetened dried cranberries and unsweetened carob chips? – DAC Mar 10 2011 at 17:19
I've made similar but used unsweetened cherries (Trader Joes) and cacao nibs in place of cranberries and carob. Tasty, but the cranberries in addition to the cherries might give it some of the tart I missed. Or maybe I need to find some unsweetened tart cherries. – Karen Mar 10 2011 at 17:30
I wonder if some jerky bits would help give the salty flavor that's missing for me. – Karen Mar 10 2011 at 17:31
Or bacon bits?! – Karen Mar 10 2011 at 17:31
Dark chocolate-covered cacao nibs are a great addition to trail mixes; I buy them in bulk at nutsonline.com. – DAC Mar 10 2011 at 17:37

I do lots of toasted shredded coconut with diced dates, salt, maybe a little mace. And I put in orange blossom water sometimes, but I think this is more like perfume for my trail mix than something that actually changes the taste!
