Seriously people. It is a fruit. It grows on a tree. You pick it and eat it. Keep some perspective.

I would really not worry about eating fruit like this if you like it. Just eat the fruit :)

Japanese Persimmon, raw 100 grams (@2/3 of a fruit)

  • Fructose 5559 mg
  • Sucrose 1540 mg (1/2 fructose)
  • Glucose 5439 mg

    = @ 6.3 grams fructose per 100 grams of fruit, @ 10.7 grams per fruit

No breakdown on US native persimmons

Figures rounded from here: http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/fruits-and-fruit-juices/2016/2

100 grams apple has @ 6.9 grams actual fructose, so sadly, persimmons are also sugar bombs. )-;

Japanese persimmons (the kind you'll find in a grocery store) are about 6 times as large as a wild American persimmon. And judging by the flavor, much sweeter too, although the astringency factor in wild persimmons makes it hard to tell. – Karen Mar 20 2011 at 1:19
The photo above is of the native wild fruit. – Karen Mar 20 2011 at 1:19
Ok, I don't think I have ever seen the japanese kind in the UK. – Matt Mar 25 2011 at 16:57
