Any ideas for meals that can be: (1) transported in as small a space as possible; (2) take the LEAST time to eat; (3) the LEAST time to prepare and (4) contain at LEAST 30 grams of protein? Ideally those which don't require refrigeration. A tall order I know...

Hard boiled eggs, cheese and nuts 2 hard boiled eggs, 1 oz of nuts and 1 oz of raw cheddar would be 31 grams of protein. It's quick easy and portable. |

Whole saucisson sec, (complete and uncut - should be sausage-shaped), covered in white 'bloom'. Needs a knife to cut, a few chews to eat, (no cooking) and contains pork protein and fat (not sure how much %). It will keep out of the refrigerator for weeks, in a cool place. I am doing a bushcraft course in the summer for ten days and will be taking four or five saucisson sec with me in my rucksack, to snack on until the rabbits get skinned. Keep it in a jute or paper bag (plastic will make it sweat and go off).

Please clarify: "don't require refrigeration" for HOW LONG? A work day? A week? If it's just a work day, any roast meat/veggie/almost anything without mayonnaise will hold up just fine without refrigeration, and packed well (I love Japanese bento boxes), will stay cold for a good while after taken out of a refrigerator, but you've omitted the context about your question, so I'm not sure I'm addressing it usefully. And by "LEAST time to prepare" do you mean actual cooking time, or amount of fuss required? A roast can take a couple hours, but it's hands off. You'll likely get better responses if you're more specific about your situation and what your limitations are. |

Billtong. Also known as Jerky in the US I believe. Make sure to get the best quality no sugar/sweetener or preservatives added. That's my go to for snacks on the move as I'm in the military. |

Thanks for asking this! I was just wondering about what would be good to take to work with me -- I work onboard Amtr@k trains in the cafe. If you've ever ridden the trains and visited the cafe, you know what I have to sell EVERY day at work XD I've always enjoyed "healthy" foods, but I've never actually stuck to EATING healthy most of the time. I have a good sized cooler which I filled with a home-made salad with leftover steak strips from dinner last night (along with other veggies - tomatoes, carrots, onions, a little cheese shreds and of course baby greens for the salad); I had two small breakfast sandwiches sans bread; I also had a blood orange, a banana, and about 6 strawberries; some red pepper hummus and about 10 crackers to go with it; and a microwavable meal leftover from my pre-paleo days. I only ate the shrimp and veggies out of it. Oddly enough, I feel like I didn't bring enough food with me, though I've craved healthy items. I've really wanted broccoli! I haven't so much as reached for a candy bar, bag of chips, or anything else I sell in my cafe. The only real bad thing I've done today is drank Diet Coke XD |

I recently made these leek wraps, as a food vehicle.
You could grill them both sides and take them on the go, filled with anything. |
