I find myself using them as a back-up often when traveling. I've become a bit of a coffee addict in the last five years, and like being able to get a buffet meal and coffee in the same place. My other staples when jetting around are Thai restaurants, and (raw, sometimes) vegan/vegetarian restaurants. I've lurked on here a long time. I know there is a big vegan backlash, but if you know the right places you can get grain-free meals where coconut or olive oil is used. It seems to be easier to find these type of restaurants than places that are using local, grassfed meat.
I'm getting grossed out though by Whole Foods buffet bar. I got food poisoning once, not 100% sure it was from there, but pretty sure. And I just don't feel good often after eating there. There's not much beef in the buffets, it's dominated by chicken, tofu, grains. And according to my friend that has worked at WF for 8 years, most of what is cooked in the kitchen is supplied by Sysco (CAFO, PUFA-ridden, all in all SAD) and everything is cooked in Canola oil. She said in her store, when things are marked organic at the buffet, it's often not true. Signs can say things like "made with local" eggs cause there might be a few in there, but the rest is Sysco, not even the stuff they sell in the stores. She says she got food poisoning twice from her store, and never eats the buffet anymore. Maybe everything she has said has just poisoned my brain, but I just don't want it anymore. And I can't stand most of the freaking customers!
I need a new back-up. Where do you go?
