Ever have days where you just overeat? Today is that day for me. Not really a cheat day but more like overeating "paleo" ish foods. Coconut/nuts/meats etc.. Oh and fruit --not the best kind ..dry fruit ARGH

The weather warming up around here seems to have made me hungrier this week.Wonder if my body doesn't think it's baby making season and is prepping ;) – bittykitty Mar 14 2011 at 19:22

Oh yes! Today my digestive system has suffered. All day, I have been eating stuffed cabbage leaves and beef.

Yesterday, I ate lots of figs...so good.

I feel a little guilty and bloated, but until I feel even worse, I think I will keep eating. :D :(

I think my body might be trying to compensate for the extreme fast I did Thursday and Friday AND the incredible stress of that day (I had terrible anxiety that made me want to throw up a little).

I have a theory that the crappy self-concept that occurs after eating too much comes from the same low self-concept that one feels directly BEFORE eating too much. (As opposed to feeling bad simply from eating too much- the overeating seems more like a symptom). Something to do with self-pity, desperation, feeling trapped?

Absolutely. I realize that portion control is not supposed to be part of Paleo, but for me it has to be. You know those contests where if you finish a 3 pound steak it's free? If you put that steak in front of me, I could easily do it. So if I did not somehow track what I eat, it would just get out of control. Hopefully over time it won't be that way anymore.

Yea, I have an issue with this as well. I also have a problem with snacking. If I'm home, even if I'm not hungry, I'll want to chew on something. Always good to have gum around! – ryan Mar 29 2011 at 12:27
Not sure why but I always feel like I could eat more meat at a meal. I usually make myself stop because I know it's enough or because there isn't any more. I always wonder how I would do at one of those steak contests... bet I could get my steak free! – Andrea S. Sep 25 2011 at 5:21
Yeah...this unweighed unmeasured paleo thing makes my brain think yay buffet meals all day everyday ... Eat as much as you can!!! Weeeeee!!! Even if its a man vs food size portion its not a challenge...it just happens...i have to track or i gain weight :( – mzrdnan May 24 2012 at 21:58

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean eating past the point of comfort, or eating more than some calculation says you should? Or does it mean eating so much that you gain weight, or something else?

I eat a lot, but there is also a lot of variability. Some days I'm busy or not very hungry, some days I eat frequently or very large portions. Sometimes when I eat, I'm sure I could have waited longer, but I almost never feel uncomfortably full.

OTOH, if sugary foods are included, I'll easily, unmistakably overeat.

I usually eat to maximal satiety 3x a day, mostly with meat. You shouldn't have any desire to snack on food if your meal composition is correct.

Yes. Yesterday was one of those days for me. I don't know why these days happen but I just go with it. I ate twice the calories and carbs I normally do. It was like I just could not stop eating. I wasn't gorging myself but I just felt like I "needed" to eat. I was eating every couple of hours probably. All acceptable foods but it felt a little bit compulsive which was slightly disturbing. Thankfully this doesn't happen often enough to feel concerned. I wish though that I understood why I had these days.
