Because of my several issues regarding my GI - Diverticulitis/osis, Barrett's Esophagus, several hernias - involving surgeries (bowel resection, intestinal resection, and now an abdominal "mesh"surgery to contain other hernias (anticipated this spring or summer), I'm beginning to think that this "leaky gut"terminology expressed in several blogs may be descriptive of what I am suffering from. Any suggestions or recommended reading re this condition - I'm 27 days on the paleo challenge (Wolf's), and will be discontinuing eggs and caffeine (not happily, I must add)! I'm open to other suggestions. Thanks in advance! PS - don't eat nightshades, or peppers, paprika, cayenne - I'm disappointedly bland in the food department!
You might want to check out the GAPS diet stuff. Although it was built to help autistic children in some respects, it has been shown to heal LGS. Worth checking out. You can easily paleo-a-fy this. Make sure you read the Introduction diet first before "going full GAPS". It basically has you making bone broths and eating fermented veg for probiotic purposes.

Don't really understand giving up eggs. They are a great source of choline. Chris Masterjohn has a great posting on eggs, liver, and choline. http://blog.cholesterol-and-health.com/2010/12/meeting-choline-requirement-eggs-organs.html
It it my understanding that you should probably severely cut starches to starve off bad bacteria (see FODMAPS), increase stomach acid to improve digestive efficiency (through apple cider vinegar or Betaine Hcl), and eat fermented foods/probiotics. This is, of course, in addition to the loss of food toxins which you've already done by going Paleo (no wheat, low fructose, etc).
In terms of "why give up eggs", in some cases people are looking at all of the possible sources of hard to digest proteins and allergies.
Most of the proteins in eggs are good (eggs are the baseline 100 score for protein absorption), but they are a common allergen in children like milk and wheat (casein and gluten are also difficult to digest - casein is used by body builders as a slow release protein supplement because of this quality).
Yeast and red meat can also make it into this category (the longer time to digest compared to say chicken occurs because the protein is tougher, and longer term satiety is pretty well documented....), perhaps with some dependence on sourcing.
There was a robb wolf podcast awhile back with mat lalonde. In it he laid out what he prescribes for people with auto immune conditions. I, too, have leaky gut and although I've been paleo for about 3 years, I'm thinking I'll be going closer to his guidelines.
Bland diets do suck, but so does being ill constantly. I just lost my mother and I'm convinced she could have extended her life if she had eaten better (paleo) instead of the horrible diet she had.
