Due to my living situation for the past couple weeks and not being able to cook food at my friend's place, I've been picking up food. It's hard to eat paleo out and so I haven't been eating it as much as this is only for another week or so (please no lectures as I've been paleo for 3 years now and this is the "worst" I've ever eaten). I'm not eating fast food or anything, just picking up stuff like thai and indian curry, subway, taco del mar (baja bowls), stir fries, nothing absolutely horrible but of a much poorer quality of food than what I normally cook.

In the past 3 weeks I've gotten- acne (haven't had so much as a pimple since high school) including a strange and painful bump inside my nose, congestion for 3 weeks in one nostril/coughing but not a full on cold, a vaginal infection, my period 2 weeks late (I've never been late), and as of two days ago what I'm assuming can only be hemorrhoids! (Small almost dime-sized skin colored bumps, never ever had these in my life). I've also gained ~8 lbs (I have a liver disorder that causes me to gain weight unless eating under ~20g/day carbs). Obviously some of this has to be food-related but do you think all of it? Do you think some of it could be stress-related also? How do I get rid of the hemorrhoids? I'm surprised and also awakened by my decline in health which is incentive to get my butt back to eating better. Interested in your similar experiences or thoughts?

May I offer some advice? A lot of Asian food has wheat & cornstarch as thickeners and sugar for flavor in the sauces you like. It would be to your benefit to order someo of your food from a vegan/vegetarian restaurant (because they typically disclose all the ingredients in their food), and supplement with a roasted beast of some sort from another restaurant that is without sauces, maybe just herbs & spices. Indian can be great, but you might also be reacting to milk in the curry, if it isn't coconut milk.

I think your symptoms are a combo of the content of your meals & stress. You're not in your normal routine, doing the best you can, but still, it's not your normal life.

You might consider some quality whole food supplements & the above suggestions on food for the duration, and probably until ~30 days after you've resumed your normal routine.

What you're experiencing isn't out of the ordinary for stress-induced situations.

Thanks for your response, Cheryl. I didn't know about the cornstarch/wheat/sugar in asian foods. I'll be sure to check the ingredients. What whole food supplements would you recommend? – Danielle Mar 16 2011 at 2:09
If you can find a practicioner to sell it to you, Standard Process. If not, then try New Chapter, or, if you prefer liquids, LiquidLife (reach4life.com) has an easy to take one. I find it really too sweet, so I divide the dose in half and add it to a bottle of water. – Cheryl - Diabetes Bootcamp Mar 16 2011 at 17:41
