I have recently cut out dairy to see if that will help my chronic nasal congestion/drip. So far, it seems to be slowly clearing up. I'm going to miss cheese (I make one helluva primal lasagna using spaghetti squash), although I've found coconut milk works fine in my coffee and I have never been a huge milk drinker.

My question is for those of you who indulge in dairy: if you have a casein sensitivity, which is what this appears to be, does goat dairy bother you? I love goat cheese, butter and yogurt.

yes, but to a much lesser degree. the same is true for buffalo milk products. i would estimate the adverse effects (in my case: joint pain, bowel inflammation and the typical exorphin effects) to maybe be 1/4 of those of cow milk. so, after testing all these alternatives to cow milk for a while, i came to the conclusion that it's just not worth it for me to take this risk and so i don't eat ANY milk products at all anymore.

I was rather afraid of that. :( Ah well, since my sensitivity to dairy merely makes me uncomfortable, perhaps once I've been off of cow dairy for a bit, I'll give small amounts of goat dairy a try. Thank you. – JansSushiBar Mar 17 2011 at 15:06

yep, it's certainly worth experimenting with the alternatives. not everyone reacts the same.. :) – qualia Mar 17 2011 at 15:13

Just did an experiment yesterday trying two mugs of goat milk and about 2-3oz goat milk cheese after being off of all dairy for 6 months. For me, I have the exact same problems today that I would have the day after eating cow dairy.

Don't get your hopes down! I was dairy-free for almost three years before 3 days ago. On a whim, finally tried goat dairy and so far so good!

We have our own goats, so we have raw, pastured, goat milk. My baby seems to have the same problems with it as she did with conventional cow milk. I'm not 100% convinced either way on its impact on mucus production for me because I've had too many other negative impacts in my life lately, but I currently have my my first cold in ages.
