So, what should we put in our emergency food supplies for earthquake preparedness? Seems like most things that can be stored for a long time are processed food items.

Great question! It'd be hard for me not to sneak into a stash of jerky or dried beef. Perhaps pemmican? I look forward to seeing people's answers! – gilliebean Mar 19 2011 at 17:43
I really need sources for foodstuffs. My current kit has very little food. In fact my kit has more "paleo legal" dog food than people food. Now that dried fruit is out I really have nothing. Lot's of people say you can buy grass fed, sugar free meat jerky but I haven't seen it. Btw I only pack a 3-4 day supply because in a city I think relief will be up and running by then. – wood Mar 19 2011 at 18:23
I would think that in a survival situation, I'm not trying to lose weight and would be perfectly happy to eat dried fruit. Also, in a survival situation, I'd be okay with CAFO jerky or dried beef. I have found CAFO sugar-free dried beef. I think dried beef lasts longer than jerky. – gilliebean Mar 19 2011 at 18:29

I'd do sardines, canned salmon, coconut oil, maybe some cans of pumpkin or sweet potatoes? And a can opener!

I just bought a few cases of my favorite kippers off of Amazon. It'll be a stinky apocalypse.

(Also, bottled water, jerky, Larabars, canned vegetables)

I say tons of dried fruit and veggies. lots of nuts and dried meats would be good. And any long lasting good fat.

Canned fish would work. You could eat them as they get old and replace with new ones. Coconut oil is a great suggestion as well. You might also try rice. Not perfectly paleo, but it will keep you alive.

If I belonged to a church that recommended a years supply of food because of a wtshtf scenario, I'd store wheat, corn, and rice. Survival takes precedence over optimal health.

Most disasters in developed nations require 3 - 14 days worth of food and water to "survive." I'd go with canned tuna, sardines, vegetables, etc - things that can be eaten cold.

Have some water or a water filter and a 5 gallon bucket of coconut oil. That's a lot of calories and it won't go bad for years at room temp.

I belong to a church which suggests having a year supply of food. Have done so for many years. But one of the suggestions is wheat. I have been wondering that same thing for months now. What do we put into out storage? I have a friend who cans his game meat, but what else?
