specifically, EYE GOOP! you know... "sleepers" that have moved onto your eyeball instead staying in the corner where your tear duct is?

I'm not talking something super disgusting here. I just mean very small (yet annoying) goopy eye sleepers that suddenly make my vision blurry until I fetch it out with my finger.

Here's the weird part... about 90% of the time, it's in my right eye only. Some days I get more, some less. It's not a big deal really, but why would my right eye be producing that so often... probably 3-5 times a day I have to take one out of my right eye. But only about once or twice a week in my left eye (other than upon waking up of course).

Is there some kind of nutrient deficiency that could cause that? or maybe overconsumption of a certain food, like dairy fat or whatever? I know you can't "diagnose me over the internet". Yah. I know. But I'm not really excited about setting up a Doctor appointment for this. Been dealing with it for years.

Dr K. Is it a deficiency in omega 3 fish oil? hehe. (sorry couldn't resist)

Congratulations, you are the first member to coin the tags 'goop' and 'sleepers'. XD – Allie Mar 25 2011 at 1:59

I have had sinus problems my whole life and would get what you're talking about quite frequently in addition to other things (post nasal drip, eye infections, cronic coughing). A few years ago i started using a Neti Pot. It's a life saver. It's a way to irigate your nasal pasages. Whenever i get those "sleepers" it's usually b/c i havent used the neti pot in a while. Most people i konw that use it swear by it. i think it was on Oprah w/ Dr. Oz once. could probably find the vid on youtube.

yah I've used it. I got caught up in the hype! I'm not doubting it. Many people swear by it, as you say. But I found it to be a very unpleasant experience. I'm not trying to be the whining dog who won't get his butt up off the nail. I'm just saying that I didn't experience some type of Zen freedom in my sinuses. To me, it just felt like a mild case of self inflicted waterboarding in my own bathroom sink. – Jack Kronk Mar 24 2011 at 21:39
JK your comments are always so witty, I think I just waterboarded myself by snorting water up my nose. – texasleah Mar 25 2011 at 0:12

My eyes started doing that before they started hemeraging. I don't know how long u have had this but three days later for me is when I had the bad news. Just be careful. It can't hurt to go to a regular Dr or even an eye Dr. This was The starting point of my arthritis and I'm 28...

I do feel pressure behind my eyes often. Plus I get migraines (although not as often anymore since going Paleo). Anyway, I appreciate the tip at least. – Jack Kronk Mar 24 2011 at 21:42

I have had a similar situation for several years, both pre and post Paleo. Went to more than one eye doctor and even had the tear duct cleaned. No difference.

One doctor said, he has seen it before and just like, some times one ear produces more wax, one eye can be more active than the other.

Only thing that has really helped is splashing with clean chilled water a few times daily. I have noticed that if eyes are kept cool this does not happen.

I don't have anything constructive to say...but if I happen to leave my contacts in when I fall asleep OH MY GOD I get so much goopy build up, and it's a yellowish tint, so gross! It's only like that with my contacts, so weird! :-P

umm eww. Eye booger. Do you use lotions on your face before you go to sleep? Perhaps you have a reaction to something in your environment like washing powder or pollen or dust on your pillow?

My first child had it is a new born and the lactation consultant told me to put breast milk in her eyes and yay it fixed the problem. I'm just saying...

lol. um thanks Mrs Y. I'll try to see if I can get a good squirt of breast milk in my eye every day. That sounds fun anyway. – Jack Kronk Mar 24 2011 at 21:44
I thought you might accuse me of hearsay and call me a witch! – Mrs Y Mar 24 2011 at 22:04
in the documentary BABIES, the mothers were shown cleaning their infant's faces and eyes with breast milk. – texasleah Mar 25 2011 at 0:09

That's funny, I have the same thing except primarily with the opposite eye. I tinker with my diet constantly and nothing has had any impact on it. I would guess that it's due to pollution of some type and that short of moving to a cleaner environment, we're not going to get rid of it.

For what it's worth, I think it's really easy to introduce a virus into your system by touching your eyes.
