Also, for perspective, please include how long you've been paleo. I've been wondering if longevity has effects on the frequency or substance of cheating during obviously vulnerable periods.
Over 2 years, and 105lbs of fat loss. (9mo to drop the weight)
My pseudo cheats are white rice (with sushi), grassfed butter/cheese. Red wine.
No intention of changing these either.
I eat tubers post exercise but don't consider that cheating at all.
I consider everything I eat healthy. Even the wine cheese and rice.
And yes, it gets A LOT easier as time passes.
I've been Paleo for 4 months now, but I lost 111lbs over the last 6 years, so I have been eating better for a long time.
Today is the first day of a four day window I have given myself not to worry about "cheating".
This morning I had a Panera Cinnamon Crunch bagel. It was wonderful and I haven't had one in over 2 years. The rest of the day was good, except for a chocolate mousse cake for dessert.
Tomorrow I have another bagel for breakfast and the rest of the day again, sans dessert should be Paleo.
The 26th my mom has ordered my very favorite lasagna for dinner and told me that I will eat it. LOL. I will eat it and not worry about it.
The 27th she is making a turkey dinner (my sister and nieces are coming in from NH). I love my mom's stuffing and I will eat it.
I'm okay with all of this. I am not celiac. I do not have any real reactions to wheat. I am planning on going completely gluten free and dairy free for January. I no longer doubt my ability to come back to healthy eating after a "cheat".
And there will be a lot of red wine. Which I do not even consider a cheat.
I'm a paleo newbie, after forgetting to grab a rice cake for breakfast a few weeks ago for breakfast and for the first time in years, did not have stomach pain. Funny how innocent, "hypoallergenic" rice was doing a number on me all this time and I had no idea. (I had already eliminated soy, gluten, and dairy, and after making the grain connection, threw out rice and other grains -- as well as legumes -- from my diet for good.)
Unfortunately, I can't really "cheat" too much on my diet or I'll get terribly ill. Paleo chose me, not the other way around.
That said, I indulged in a couple of truffles this afternoon that had questionable ingredients, but they were a gift, and they tasted pretty darn good. :D Other than the occasional French fry that I've filched from my fella's plate, I don't think I've strayed too much this holiday.
Oh, and last week, I had some weasel-poop coffee (Kopi Luak or 'civet coffee'), about an ounce of wine, and the frosting off some cupcakes. So yeah, guess I did stray a wee bit last week, but my stomach definitely let me know it the next day. It's back to clean eating this week, though, and my body thanks me for it.
This season, I'm only eating junk if it's a. homemade b. actually Christmas/New Year's
No 24 days of eating candy, just two. And I'm sticking with gluten-free treats.
No grains, did have some tubers though. Darn chips.
Been paleo for about 2 years. Did not get to paleo because of trends though, got here because of issues with celiac and diabetes and eliminating things that caused bad reactions. Sort of more Primal though, Paleo + High fat dairy.
Wife and I just had a baby at home yesterday. #4, a little girl. Our first Primal Baby. Labor was short, pregnancy was easy, and the baby is the most bright and aware of the 4 we have had, and that is saying something.
Im proud to say the extent of my cheats have been mostly red wine. I had a flourless chocolate cake for thanksgiving (1 piece) and gluten free corn bread stuffing. Ive stayed completely gluten free!
My daughter and I have been GF for three years, Paleo for one. Not much cheating because I have cooked and baked up products that we can eat and we bring them with us. Coconut flour muffins, pumpkin pie with nut crust, pancakes, coconut flour bread, bacon wrapped goodies (dates, livers, water chestnuts, pineapple...) free range turkey. If I cheat at all it will be things like a baked brie with rice crackers and maybe some black rice with my chicken curry. Still gluten free, just not what Grok would have chowed down on.
