I have been using castor oil as a natural moisturiser. It's great, but very thick and viscous, so I've been trying to switch to coconut oil, but it makees me break out a little. Is this an adjustment period or am I simply sensitive to it?
What has been your experience of CO on your skin?
Coconut oil is comedogenic, as is it has the tendency to block pores.
The best solution I've found it to occasional breakouts is the oil-cleansing method:
I picked up a cheap facial steamer and some castor and sunflower oil, whole kit cost me less than 25 euro ($30) and it's surprisingly effective given how expensive the creams are that I have tried.
What else are you putting on your skin? Have you tried switching brands of coconut oil? is the coconut oil you are using steam deodorized? I find the raw natural that contains the fragrance to be irritating to my skin.
I second the oil cleansing method, though it does take a few weeks for your skin to adjust.
I also tried to use coconut oil and started to break out. I think my skin is naturally sensitive (probably from using crap mainstream products for years!). I'm going to try jojoba oil instead. For now I've stopped using any products except twice-daily chamomile tea as toner and a weekly homemade exfoliation (cornmeal or coffee grinds, honey, etc). My skin is so soft and radiant!
