Let's say you binged or cheated, for whatever the reason ;-), and let's say the binge consisted of all the things you normally avoid: some grains, too many PUFAs, too many carbs and probably some additives and conservants too.

Do you know (or have experience with) a way to recover from this binge, as good and as fast as possible?

Do you

  • fast?
  • workout brutally, but short?
  • eat sticks of pastured butter and drink cod liver oil from the bottle?
  • sleep it off?
  • call it carb cycling or feasting?
  • blame it on somebody else?
  • not care at all?
  • all of the above?
  • do something else?

Thanks

By the way, I don't cheat/binge very often, and if I do, I don't worry about it too much, and probably add a fast. Also, I am reminded of the fact why I don't eat grains. – Pieter D Apr 6 2010 at 12:37

After the current holidays and some stressful events recently I found myself eating a lot of bread. I gained about 5 lbs in a week. This was the worst fail I've had. I drank a lot of water, went VLC and exercised. Most of the weight was water retention from the gluten. I have never peed so much in my life. In 2 days the 5 lbs are gone and my energy level is back up.

Get back on track as soon as possible but try not to worry about it.

After I binge I def try and drink alot of water and try to eat very strict. I will also add some brutal WODs in those following days. With me it is just a mental game about getting myself feeling better after the binge.

Well, after I've come out of my 'carb' or 'sugar' coma....I drink lots of water to help flush out my system and redeem myself with a trail run and get back to clean Paleo eating. Don't beat yourself up when you fall off the Paleo wagon, just hop back on. The Paleo Gods will forgive you. ;-)

The few times I've cheated, I've countered it with the same regimen of exercise and diet that I've followed before. I feel that given how good we are with our bodies by following the PD, the rare hiccup is not going to affect us severely. Just keep on keepin' on. :)

i try to make sure i do more things i really enjoy, that relax me, because the binge was probably brought on by stress.

Usually a combo of fasting and brutal exercise. Hardly an ideal solution but helps me remember why I don't binge eat when I can help it.
