I've been seeing alot of people mix up how many eggs they eat, maybe 3 eggs and 2 egg whites etc. How many eggs (lets say per week) is too many? Is there serious benefit to doing some form of whole egg + whites combo? I know some do it for cholesterol, any other benefits?
I haven't had my cholesterol tested in a long time, but it was fine before and I eat approx 12-16 eggs a week now.
You seem to be under the impression that dietary cholesterol has some impact on blood cholesterol. They are completely unrelated. Blood cholesterol is determined through hormonal status. You could eat only eggs and have an excellent cholesterol profile.
As for whites vs. yolks, in this crowd you are more likely to see people skip the whites, since some believe the whites have harmful proteins. See this previous question and others.
I am 70 now, for years I had been having regular braakfast, 2 eggs, a coffee and a bowl of salad. That together with some eggs in other dishes make it 18 eggs a week. I had a very good profile for fats and cholesterol. I was warned about more than 1 egg per day and I did reduce my intake to max of 6 eggs per week.My yearly chlosteral profile turned bad. Had a short discussion with my Doctor, I intend to have the nice Breakfast of 2 eggs, a coffee and salad again!
All I know is that starting my day off with eggs or bacon is a much better way to start than a bowl of cereal. My energy levels are much more stable throughout the day. I'm glad that I came across the paleo/primal diet when I did.
i guess the answer to the question "how many eggs is too many?" must be quite similar to the one for questions like "how much meat is too much?", "how much fish is too much?"... "how much food is too much?"
When you start clucking? ;)
No. Seriously. There is no reason to mix eggs with whites, just eat the whole thing! I know many people that eat 3 to 4 per day with no problems. Some here eat even more! If you are especially worried about it, cut them out for 30 days and then add them back in and see if there is a difference.
2-4 a day. most in one one day = 9. In my journeys in the paleo blogosphere and beyond I've come across people eating a dozen or more a day. Eggs are so economical and there is such a variety of ways to prepare them that I don't think I could ever get tired of them. Running out the door? perfect time to down a raw one. Just cooked some bacon? Throw those suckers into the grease with some tomatoes.
