I'm searching for a new primary care physician in the San Diego area who is Paleo-friendly and uses integrative techniques (extensive blood/lipid/hormone/vitamin testing, encourages supplements, uses pharma drugs as a "last resort"). Does a registry exist to find doctors who won't force the FDA Food Pyramid down my throat?

I found one MD that's close to my target, but they're tightly aligned with Dr. Andrew Weil (aka Dr. Grains-N-Legumes). I'm hesitant to go there due to Dr. Weil's perceived hostility to the hunter-gatherer lifestyle.

BTW, I LOVE PALEOHACKS!!

Weil is on record as stating he liked GCBC by Taubes. He also advices people to only eat bread that he considers real whole grain bread- and this is very hard to find. I think you would be much better off with someone aligned with Weil than a random doctor. – HealthRediscovery Apr 6 2010 at 22:22
WOW...didn't know he was a GCBC fan. I think I'll try out the doc I found and see if my Paleo diet can at least be tolerated and monitored. Thanks! – ricechek Apr 6 2010 at 23:05
Weil is a soy pusher. – Suzan Apr 6 2010 at 23:42
@ricechek --- glad you like it. Tell your friends! :) – Patrik Apr 6 2010 at 23:59

A paleo-friendly doctors registry might be a great resource for the director page, Patrik. Then again, it might be politically problematic too. ;) – gilliebean Apr 7 2010 at 0:00

The closest I've found is Jimmy Moore's link to low-carb doctors.

It's a great start! Thanks! – ricechek Apr 6 2010 at 23:03
The only San Diego doctor on that list is a reproductive endocrinologist. Guess we'll have to wait for more. – ScottMGS Apr 7 2010 at 0:57

Check out the Paleo Physician Network, coordinated by Robb Wolf and Loren Cordain.

Although it will not find you a physician immediately, I would urge you to attend the First Ancestral get together http://ancestryfoundation.org/ Will happen sometime in 2011 in the Los Angeles area. Lots of the paleo bloggers will be there as well perhaps some physicians and other folks in the medical field.

Patrik may/will probably be there. No excuses since you have at least a year to plan!

Along the same lines, I am searching for a "paleo-friendly" doctor in New York City. Perhaps someone has a recommendation?

I am halfway done with my Family med residency and would love to be in a registry such as this. I am looking into a niche practice where concerned, motivated patients actually want to change and get off meds. I might do a Sports Med fellowship too. I feel like I miss the boat on everything in life.

Currently reside near the Black Hills/Badlands of South Dakota!
