I've been doing paleo for 7 days now. So far terrific, I already got rid of 15 years of joint pain! But two days ago I started having very bad migranish head-aches in the mornings, sometimes for hours on and my eyes feel very sore too. I read that it can be related to the quantity of meat/fish intake so I am trying to increase that now. This morning it feels slightly better, but does anyone know any other reasons causing these head-aches? Before I never had head-aches. Thanks for any advises!

Obviously this could be from any number of things, but are you supplementing with magnesium? My migraines went away when I cut gluten, but I still had the occasional tension headache until I started supplementing magnesium. Or soak a small towel in a warm epsom salt solution (ie magnesium) and wrap it around your neck/shoulders/face area. Use the amount that the container says to use for a sprain injury. If you get pretty immediate relief, it's probably a magnesium issue. Oh, and rinse well. That stuff dries and gets really itchy! Also consider your water intake. I sometimes feel like crap because I guess I don't totally recognize my body's hydration cues. |

This could be from a number of causes, in particular if you've restricted carbs enough to get into ketosis it's a common symptom of adaptation and the lack of accustomed glucose levels. It's sometimes also called the low-carb flu or ketosis flu. Look at several of the other threads with "headaches" tags for references and detail, and the "ketosis"-tagged ones if indeed you are restricting severely enough to be in that state. I had some of these symptoms last week (which was week 2 for me), but not something so severe as to liken to a migraine. |

Very common adaptation when you switch fuel sources because of the induction of vasodilation by ketones on nitric oxide synthetase of the cerebrospinal vascular bed and especially the dura. It will go away |
