This is what Dr Oz says: Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can you believe this? For those who like to drink cold water, this applies to you. It's nice to have a cold drink after a meal, however, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you've just consumed, which slows digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

Do you all think there is any merit in this? I love cold water.....but with the fat I am eating....do I have to worry?

No, you don't have to worry. It's a popular TV show; don't expect anything on it to make sense. – Anonymous Coward Apr 10 2011 at 20:06

If this were the case every Eskimo in the world since the beginning of their civilization would be DEAD from cancer. On the flip side before the introduction of our crap into their diet- they almost never get CANCER. – Anna Dec 29 2011 at 14:40

Interesting.. never heard of this concept coming from Dr Oz. It may hold some merit when you look at other cultures around the world. Many will agree the healthiest culture out there is the Asian culture, and anytime you visit an Asian cuisine restaurant, they serve you tea throughout the meal. Perhaps there is something to it.

One thing I do know is that drinking any type of liquids after a meal does have the potential to dilute your HCL used for digestion; so it's not always best to drink anything after a meal. This is at least what my naturopath told me, and he's the one who directed me to the Paleo plan (which I love).

My Grandma Enid Thompson, 105 years old, has never drink cold water after eating meal. She always drank warm water. She likes soup that she made home her own private recipes. I noticed her glass of water without ice cubes everyday she drank. That is why she kept alive long time until now she died on May 9th of 2012. Mrs. Thompson teaches us to drink warm water after eating small meal.

Gerald Rowe, 51 age, I wrote about my grandma. I drank water warm only is better than cold. Thank you for reading my message.

I think Dr. Oz iz beholden to commercial interestz. How could he possibly have a TV show if he weren't?

I don't know about the cancer statement, but as a medical professional that deals with the anatomy of the mouth and throat, those body parts already possess the necessary tools to help start the digestive process: saliva and peristalsis. It would seem to me that drinking water or any fluids isn't necessary, so why not consider what these Doctors are saying?

Funny though, people here mostly drink warm water and warm water is served at the local coffee shops. And my friends here think I am going to kill myself drinking cold water. If its warm, then I prefer it to be tea, otherwise the cold water helps me to momentarily cool down as does lime juice- from SE Asia.

Dr. OZ is an idiot. all hot food and cold water assume body temp rapidly. what a nut job.

Wonder what causes cancer faster, artificial sweeteners in cold soda or cold water? – Joy Sep 8 2011 at 14:28

Many of the things Dr. Oz says we've probably heard before. What he says confirms what we've heard. Why do some people like to make nasty comments. If you don't like it change the channel. Who asked you to watch in the first place. We (the people) happen to like Dr. Oz so back off. Your lives must be miserable.

I like how you tell us how miserable our lives must be, when you obviously created an account specifically so you could troll this question. you must be a real winner! – WayfinderAli Sep 8 2011 at 16:41
Matter of fact my life is quite great thank you. You're probaly one of those people who believes that you catch a cold from being cold. I'll just let you keep on believeing that, because I wouldn't want to offend you. So have a nice day :) – Jonesey Dec 29 2011 at 14:33
its Dr OZ. he has an agenda other than health. his agenda is a job – coprophagous Dec 29 2011 at 15:07
Lemme guess, because Dr Oz showed that a stick of butter is solid at room temperature, that proves it clogs arteries at 98° in your body? Myself, I've seen what happens to butter when left outside in near 100° temps, and solid isn't it. Dr Oz and science don't have a mutually friendly association. – Anondson Apr 30 2012 at 22:02

Dr. Oz also promotes distance healing, speaking to the dead through mediums, and homeopathy.

Now, he may accidentally say something that is correct, but were not talking about someone you should ever pay attention to for advice.

It would only ever be accidental. He is a QUACK!!! – Alan Apr 11 2011 at 5:00

As much as I'm not a fan of Dr. Oz, I think this has been incorrectly attributed to him.

This one has been doing the rounds on email for years:

Total bunk.

You know what scares me about DR OZ. Everything. HE is credible so people with believe everything hesays and think they have "IT"....my mom and friends quote him so much that i wonder how long before they are afraid to get out of bed....kind of like if you watch the news daily....it may be true but i cant let watch it all the time or i would be builing a bomb shelter/doomsday shelter right now instead of learning how to make my life better.. :)

You need to remind your mom and friends that TV is for entertainment, not education. If they want and education they need to enroll in a good school, and even then question what they are being told. – Marie Apr 10 2011 at 18:46

My husband lurved Dr. Oz. I'm somewhat grateful because Dr. Oz is why my husband is willing to eat real eggs (yolks have cholesterol- oh noes!) again. But I'm more grateful that he got offended that Oz is pro-legalization of marijuana. Now he won't listen to a word Oz says, but still eats eggs. Win-win! – WordVixen Apr 11 2011 at 1:00

This seems pretty unreal to me. I would think your body would warm the water faster than the water would solidify the fat - I mean think how long it takes the warm fats to solidify in a pan or on your plate. I wouldn't worry

Anything you consume ends up the same temperature.
