This is not a duplicate question. All the other threads that discuss the rebranding cannot also serve as a suggestion box for names.

Please note I have marked this as Community Wiki given the nature of this question and its answers.

Please keep your answers short and sweet (meaning just the name). An exception would be if you want to make a comment about the name or some kind of short explanation if it needs it.

Here's how this will work:

  • Answer this question with any name suggestions you'd like. Answer multiple times or one all-inclusive answer. Since this is a Community Wiki, it won't matter much anyway.

  • I will scrummage through the answers and pick out the most popular name ideas

  • These popular choices will be the 'nominated' entries for an online voting poll

  • We will put out the voting poll here on PaleoHacks and spread the word elsewhere too

  • The top one or two winners of the voting poll will become known across the "Paleo" community.

At that point, the game ends. It will then be up to the masses to determine if the whole operation was a successful way to 'agree' on a popular new brand or if it was "all for naught". In other words, nobody here on PaleoHacks has the sway to pronounce a 'winner'. I mean, we can announce it, but making something stick would fall more in the hands of the big bloggers that we all look to for information. What they choose to do with it (if anything at all) will be completely unknown and unpredictable. If nothing sticks, then nothing sticks. So this will either be a complete success or a total failure. But you cannot have a breakthrough until you take a risk.

A couple of key points:

Paleo 2.0 will be automatically on the voting poll

Archevore will be automatically on the voting poll

Leaving "Paleo" alone and not rebranding at all will automatically on the voting poll

"Other" with a blank suggestion box will be on the poll

[*sigh] This is such a waste of time. I will write about this on PaleolithicDiet.com sometime next week. – Patrik Aug 27 2011 at 14:59
Yah this garnered an overwhelming response to leave it as Paleo, which I was actually surprised by. That's why I never took it to the next step (the voting poll). – Jack Kronk Aug 27 2011 at 19:38

I think of the paleo/primal/archevore/ancestral as the Paleo Spectrum Most people fit into the spectrum somewhere, whether at the autoimmune protocol diet end of the spectrum, or the dairy consuming primal folk at the other and the vlc ketogenic folk off on another tangent. Most grains are out of the spectrum, though white rice is one exception that can slot in, for some people certain legumes are on the fringes too.

What can generally agreed is that HFCS, cane sugar, modern crapanola oils and wheat/gluten and general processed crap is not anywhere at all the spectrum

Isn't this all a bit too much like "CORN SUGAR"? Keep it, just make it better.

ORGANIC LOW CARB is I believe the best description. Paleo is not a good name for the diet currently followed here since many neolithic foods are accepted (milk, dairy, bacon). But the vast majority here goes for low carb, and we all choose organic products, so organic low carb is the real thing!

Paleo isn't necessarily low carb. Just because most people do it doesn't mean we should all. Also, the organic thing is a bit silly I think. My vegetables aren't organic, but they're from a local farmer who uses the least amount of pesticides he can. – mari Apr 13 2011 at 17:23
Yes paleo does not need to be low carb but 90% of the followers are low carb. And paleo is not a good name for this diet, bc it does include many non-paleo foods... – Philosopher Apr 13 2011 at 17:25
when someone says, "Oh so you do a low carb diet?" No.... I'd like to call it smart-carb. i.e. only relative to the high carb diet of many Americans today is it lower carb, but really the focus is on the quality and timing of carb consumtion. Eat smart. Eat S-mart. S-mart carbsssss – JoeBranca at paleoplusone.com Apr 14 2011 at 4:46

how about, Paleo 1.0 gets re-labeled the Paleomythic Diet, and Paleo 2.0 the NeoPaleo Diet

I like NeoPaleo – Jack Kronk Apr 13 2011 at 17:28
This was my first thought when I read the question. Not sure if it has the ring to it that people will like. – Primal Trucker Apr 14 2011 at 9:20
another consideration is how much its popularity has depended on Internet based dissemination. it should be an Internet meme, like I Can Has Baconz – JoeBranca at paleoplusone.com Aug 19 2011 at 22:24

I often use the "Real Food" tag on Twitter.

yah my email is realfoodlife@gmail.com. real food is where it's at. – Jack Kronk Apr 13 2011 at 13:59
I agree, it is just easier to say "I eat Real Food" rather than <insert title here>. Titles sound like fads. A nice simple description sounds like....well, the food I eat :) – texasleah Apr 13 2011 at 16:13

The real human diet...

That said, I don't really care what its called. And the aforementioned name would be hard to find via an internet search. I just tell people I eat real food, if they start to argue I just say I disagree and leave it at that. – saiklón Apr 13 2011 at 2:24
Oh, if anyone doubts the name... throw a human on an abandoned island (or nearly any survival situation without conventional food at hand) and they will eat this diet. – saiklón Apr 13 2011 at 2:27
I meant to say, they will "eat this diet or die soon thereafter." – saiklón Apr 13 2011 at 2:30

I didn't think "Paleo" was a brand. So rebranding it doesn't (technically) make sense.

On a less nitpicky note, I like leaving it as is. This flurry of name changes is fun if you're a linguist. Especially a cunning one, hee hee.

The last time I commented that I loved you it got deleted (the sad boy that compared boobs to presents), so I will state once again Kamal, I adore you. <3 – sherpamelissa Apr 13 2011 at 1:49
I adore you too, Melissa! – Kamal Apr 13 2011 at 2:23
wow! a love story right here on paleohacks. cool :) – Jack Kronk Apr 13 2011 at 2:32
She's taken Jack! (not by me, I should add...) – Kamal Apr 13 2011 at 2:40
btw Kamal. A brand is often referred to as something you can get behind. A 'purpose' to support. It's a side skew to the most common meaning of the word. Paleo is in some ways a 'brand'. – Jack Kronk Apr 13 2011 at 16:00

I don't care what people call it, as long as it's based on good science.

OHN = Optimal Human Nutrition

I don't think OHN will work, but I will say that Optimal Human Nutrition is EXACTLY what I'm after, and I think it's a very well worded explanation of how I choose to eat 90+% of the time. – Jack Kronk Apr 13 2011 at 1:04

this is ridiculous. what about not having a 'banner' to bandwagon? everyone here does so much jumping around anyways, it'd be obsolete by the next the next FotM rolls around. exercise some autonomy and individualism

what is ridiculous? – Jack Kronk Apr 13 2011 at 1:05

The revolution diet.

The word evolution is still present but not so threatening to those with strong religious beliefs. So much of what we promote flys in the face of the establishment.

integrovore

short explanation needed: integro- : As a Latin verb it means "renew, restore, make whole" which refers to the goal of normalizing health through diet. The verb can also mean "begin again, start from scratch", referring both to a research-based, ever growing and adjusting knowledge of diet, and as a bonus can refer to preferred food preparation methods. The root adjective to integro- is integer, meaning "complete, whole, intact" - i.e. the "minimally processed" approach to food preparation, the ideal especially when working towards the goal of renewed, restored, health.

* Pastoral *

for those who don't know, eating a pastoral based diet means eating animal based foods, particularly animals raised on pasture. a shepherd leading a pastoral life would typically raise livestock animals and move from pasture to pasture where there was drinkable water available. Dr Kurt Harris says on his site that he considers his diet to be "Pastoral". – Jack Kronk Apr 13 2011 at 19:12
Seems to be some reality here. – Primal Trucker Apr 14 2011 at 9:23

this is hilarious. i did not expect this. if this continues to absolutely dominate, we may not need a poll after all. – Jack Kronk Apr 13 2011 at 5:24

Paleo as a meme and concept are just getting into mainstream consciousness... It's a sort of nickname for an entire group of ideas. I think it is both too early and too late to change the name. – Adam Crafter Apr 13 2011 at 13:07

So 23 upvotes for "Who's up for Paleo 2.0?" and and the top upvoted answer on that 'question' is for it as well??? But zero votes here and eighty billion votes for leaving it as "paleo". that's pretty cornfusing. – Jack Kronk Apr 13 2011 at 19:14
I think that people were up for the concept of Paleo 2.0, I don't think they necessarily meant they were agreeing with a name change. – sherpamelissa Apr 14 2011 at 12:57
