I am at work and did not bring a lunch with me today. There is a grocery store around the corner from the office. What can I get for lunch that does not require any cooking and stay Paleo? BTW, this is a newbie.
Here's some ideas:
Beware of wheat and preservatives in the grocery-store roast chicken.
They should have some good lunch meat in the health food section, grab some of that, an avocado, and some mustard, and make little rolls out of it. You can add cheese if you're doing dairy.
Ok, so how did I do?
First thanks everyone for your answers, it was very helpful
So I went to the store and did a little hunting and gathering and came back with the following.
1 small head of brocoli 2 tins of shardines in olive oil 1 avacado and a small plastic container of blueberrys.
I ate everything but the blueberrys, too full, I will save them for a snack later. Also washed it all down with a big 32oz jug of water.....
Fruit, Veggies, Smoked Salmon (look for hidden sugar),Sardines, Tuna, Salad mix, Coconut oil, Butter, Dark Chocolate, Olive oil
Sky's the limit, really. You only need enough to get you back home to cook a feast :)
Some grocery stores will steam fresh fish for you right in the fish department. Grab a lemon and whatever veggies you can buy in a lunch size portion (or will keep well enough to take home) and see if they have any individual portions of real butter (if they have a big take out section, they might).
I normally go with a salad. Most grocery stores have some sort of a salad bar. I just make my own with as many veggies as possible and hard boiled eggs or grilled chicken or tuna (whatever is available)...then normally I buy a bag of almonds and/or baby carrots or blueberries as a snack later. I can eat salads without salad dressing though...
see if they have applegate lunch meat (or lunch meat without nitrates). http://www.applegatefarms.com/products/
sardines in olive oil or water
these are the items I usually pickup - or I go out to lunch with coworkers and get burgers w/o the bun, or meat with salad, burrito bowls (no tortilla) without beans or rice, etc...
Or my favourite, get some thin sliced roast beef from the deli counter. Use it as a tortilla and fill it up with some liver pate or cottage cheese or sundried tomatoes or olives or all of the above. Mouths watering.....
