I'll be driving from the Los Angeles area back to Boston at the end of the month. Obviously being on the road for 3-4-5 days will make eating primal a little difficult. Any suggestions, besides living on biltong or jerky? :)

Plan, plan, plan.
You might look at the answers for the follow two paleohacks questions: If it were me, I'd eat eggs and bacon in the mornings. Snack on my paleo foods throughout the day while I drive (jerky, dried beef, pemmican, nuts, seeds), and eat a steak and veggies for dinner when I stop to sleep. |

Some good snacks (in my mind): - Hard Boiled Eggs - Cherry Tomatoes - Bell Peppers - Chicken Breast (it keeps... as does ground grass-fed burgers - perhaps try and find a cheap hotel with a fridge in the room?) - Nuts & Seeds - Dried Sea Vegetables - Flaxseed Crackers (Food Alive is pretty good) - Sliced Chicken & Turkey Breast - Jerky - Canned Seafood (in water or olive oil) Don't forget the water, napkins & plastic forks/knives/spoons!! |

Its much too late to offer this for your trip, but it still might be relevant to anyone looking for a quick on-the-go primal snack. We made these turkey and tomato lettuce wraps over the weekend for a beach trip / 400 mile drive. It was easy, quick and cheap to make a bunch of them in the morning - and we snaked on them throughout the day both on the beach and on the road. You just have to keep them cool, and they'll be fine. Plus, they're easy to eat with one hand while driving - bonus! Here is the super-simple recipe and some more photos.

Mark's Daily Apple has a wonderful recipe for Cocoa/Coconut Balls. As for other ideas on the road, Gilliebean has some great ideas. One other thought is to plan to fast one of the days on the road - and then use the eat time for a workout. Being that long on the road, you'll need a primal workout to shake the bugs out of your system. Any trip that long has to leave you a little buggy! |

At this point, I'm eating only during a couple hours a day (one style of Intermittent Fasting) so I'd get up early and drive until midday and, if it was a picturesque spot (I'd aim for one), take a nice long walk to stretch my legs. Then I'd pick up a meat-based meal and drive until evening and have another paleo meal. Then take another long walk or go for a swim. |
