Why isn't this like a normal forum? I don't understand the "question only" policy. At all.

I think the "wtf" tag needs more use. – sherpamelissa Apr 15 2011 at 19:07

Cuz I didn't want a "normal forum" (they tend to suck) -- I wanted PaleoHacks to be a resource in a Q & A format. – Patrik Apr 17 2011 at 1:40

Why don't you read the FAQ and report back :P http://paleohacks.com/faq#axzz1JcUPof5W

We also have a guide to asking questions here.

THere are plenty of good paleo forums, check out Evolvify and Mark's Daily Apple

Thought I am not the original poster, I read the FAQ and, unless I'm missing something, don't think it answered the question. – Jay Apr 15 2011 at 20:37

This is a site where you ask a question in order to "hack" your paleo diet. I don't understand why the FAQ doesn't answer that for you? Are you asking a more existential question like "Why can't this site be what I want it to be?" Patrik created this site for questions, you can ask him. – Bread-Eating Beelzebub Apr 15 2011 at 20:41

I think that was indeed the question. By the way, it's a stupid rule because it's arbitrary and easy to get around. For instance, "it's a stupid rule because it's arbitrary and easy to get around, isn't it?" – Jay Apr 15 2011 at 22:11
@Jay -- let me throw a question at you: "Do you think if you do this, we won't notice and we won't delete or suspend you?" Thanks. – Patrik Apr 17 2011 at 18:53

AC - you might also enjoy reading through this thread, as a lot of this type of thing was discussed in it... specifically regarding the future of PaleoHacks. Patrik says he's working on some things... not sure what that really means, but one of things discussed was the possibility of a "discussion section". I guess time will tell...

patrik formed babby? – Kamal Apr 15 2011 at 21:27

I think we should have either a discussion section of the website or another separate website that is just a forum. (I.e, separate so Patrik doesn't have to bother with it if he doesn't want to.) But I like having the constraints of the question and answer format, with all of the other rules as well. It keeps us honest and makes us work hard to learn. And I think it also plays a big role in keeping this site remarkably (remarkably, remarkably) civil. – Paul Apr 15 2011 at 21:41

what about paleobabby.com? – Bread-Eating Beelzebub Apr 15 2011 at 23:04

Yes -- Patrik has been busy with a Paleo babby. But is working on another Paleo project. Progress is slower than I would like it to be -- but c'est la vie when one has a Paleo babby... – Patrik Apr 17 2011 at 1:38

I like this format a lot but would love a "related" discussion board.

PaleoHacks isn't a forum --- it is a site where the interaction is between questions and answers (and comments).

I like this because it tends to keep the signal to noise ratio high.

From the FAQ:

PaleoHacks.com is a collaboratively edited question-and-answer site. It is not a blog nor a forum. We want PaleoHacks.com to complement, not supplant, the many thriving high-quality Paleo-themed blogs such as: (in no particular order)

It's the format of the Stack Exchange software. If you want a forum, check out CavemanForum.com, just don't tell them you eat dairy or they'll eat you alive and just fixate on that instead of what you're attempting to ask them for help with.
