Does Anyone know of any cures for toenail fungus that don't require an oral prescription? My thought is that this is caused internally, and could possibly be cured with a paleo diet.

Another vote for tea tree oil. But this is what I did to make sure it got under the nail. It sounds crazy, but it totally nipped it in the bud. I used an alcohol-sterilized pin and pricked several holes in my nail, VERRRRRYYYYY slowly until I could just feel it (didn't hurt). Then applied tea tree oil topically every night for two weeks. Good luck! |

I've heard that Vicks Vaporub, applied topically, destroys toenail fungus. It may not be paleo, per se, but it's a hell of a lot better than an oral prescription. |

Nope, no luck. Been there and tried most everything. I had those little yellow guys under my toe nails for a long time. Bit the bullet and paid the $400 in Rx oral pills and wiped it out clean. Didn't control it, it cured it. |

Tea tree oil Coconut oil (I've heard of people using this, but I'd go with the tea tree oil) EDIT: I guess I should have been more specific, my bad. DO NOT consume the tea tree oil. For the tea tree oil: you can get concentrated oil from a health food store or order online. If you get the oil just take a cotton ball (or cloth, or just a dropper) and dab on a few drops (on the infected area). You can also get tea tree oil containing products (straight up oil might be best but whatever is easier for you), I saw a tee tree oil fungus treatment system at HEB (grocery store) a while back - look at the foot care aisle in your local grocery store. For the Coconut oil: Both. Eat it and apply on the area. Tea tree oil should work faster/better though. |

Toenail fungus is not caused internally - its a fungus, which lives off decaying matter for the most part that is on the outside of your body. Apparently there are newer laser treatments that can kill the fungus however. Not FDA approved yet however, so you'll probably pay through the nose for it and effectiveness is not guaranteed. |

I'm using tea tree oil. I made a website and I'm taking a picture of my toes every week to show people whether it works or not (hopefully it does). It's at http://teatreefornailfungus.com, and its non-commercial. It's only been 3 weeks so far so there isn't much change yet. |

Applying tea tree oil with a cotton wool bud to the nail area morning and night in conjunction with consuming coconut oil and applying to effected areas has helped to control my toenail fungus. Tea tree oil is also great to use when the surrounding skin is itchy too! I have also started to use Oregano oil. |

There is a pill that a Dr could prescribe, it's a anti fungal. I took it about 5 years ago and it made my toe nail problem completely go away. It takes about 4 months to grow out of your nails. Ask your Dr. about it, it was called Lamisil. |

in the Korean community i live in, they have always traditionally sunk their feet in sake or any other strong liquid like vinegar for about 3-4 hours. if you have very bad fungal infections, it will sting like hell. but as you stick it out, the stinging part fades, and the liquid starts to seep in. the liquid might start to color. you can try this method the first night, then for another 1 or 2 sessions. my husband started to see a marked improvement after the 1st one, so he didnt need to do much more. He did another shorter 2-hr session just in case. your feet will start to peel, but that's a good thing- it's getting rid of dead, infected skin. then, what really matters is good upkeep. your feet will continue to heal as long as you provide your body the right nutrients it needs to heal, as well as an anti-fungal environment. don't wear your socks more than once, keep them well-ventilated as much as you can (limit closed-toe shoes, so they can breathe. try sandals or flip=flops) and be careful in communal showers. keep well-hydrated as well, to promote flushing of toxins. try it and post back your results |

diatomaceous earth (taken orally - up to 2 Tablespoons in water at night). Ease into this a teaspoon at a time. EDIT: Make sure you get the FOOD GRADE. Perma-guard is the best brand as far as I know. Don't take with other supplements or medication as it will affect the absorption. Tamanu oil - heddwyn essentials is a good source. This is also great for acne and can even be put on open wounds. |

use some ZeroFungus. it works like, seriously. it kills off fungi in a matter of weeks, sometimes days even. it has very potent but natural ingredients like birch oil and green tea catechins that are known as naturally antiseptic and anti-fungal. my dad used it once, and his fungus healed and never came back. |

Try rosalina instead of the regular tea tree oil. It works better with difficult cases. |

If the natural remedies don't work for you, there is a topical prescription medication called Penlac that works really well. Of course, insurance won't cover it because it's more expensive than the liver-damaging pills. Although, I heard that they have come out with a generic, so that's worth looking into. It's like a clear nail-polish that you apply daily. Your best bet is to see a dermatologist for a prescription. |

Several types of treatment options available for toenail fungus cure. as a home remedies, you can use tea tree oil, listerine, vinegar etc. You can apply tea tree oil on the affected toenail for 10 to 15 minutes twice daily. You can soak your affected toenail on listerine. It kill off the fungus and provides relief from its symptoms. Alternative to this, you can also use homeopathic toenail fungus medicine like zetaclear or funginix. |

The topical "nail polish" types like FungiNail have worked well for family members. It helps to soak in warm water first before applying. I've seen many of those natural remedies fail or take a lot longer (e.g. vinegar). I would NOT take the oral meds unless all else failed, and I'd go through the list of other options provided here and/or combine them. I'd rather soak my feet in pure vinegar for two hours a day than take oral antifungals. Those were developed for those with immune-deficiencies like HIV/AIDS to combat systemic fungal infections such populations are prone to. |

Does anyone have experience with Long Creek's Herbal Nail Fungus Soak? It's herbs boiled in apple cider vinegar and the company recommends 2 months of 3-5 minute soaking. I suppose it is similar with some of the above treatments involving vinegar. I have tried tea tree oil in the past not for my fungal toenails but for my severe athlete's foot which was cracking and leaking. Perhaps I did something wrong but it made it worse and I quit in about a month. Does tea tree oil work well with open sores or wounds? |

Fungus is an skin infection which is spread from one person to other but I don't think so it is caused internally. For example : Fungal nail infection is caused mainly due to either wearing a wrong pair of shoes or due to the over exposure of pressure on anybody’s feet. Therefore, it is good for everybody to wear a right size of a pair of shoes. Also one should not wear shoes over wet feet. |

Although only available by prescription, Lamisil works and is now available in generic form ($10 for a full 90 course at Walmart and Target). My brother, my sister and I all used Lamisil and our nail fungus problems went away ... permanently. The only potential hitch is that it may cause liver problems. If your doctor is especially conservative he/she might want you have your liver checked with a blood test. _Lazza |

First of all wash and dry your feet very well. But even more effective: Use special zederna cedarsoles in your shoes. They cure nail fungus immediately. You just wear them inside your shoes and you get a very fresh aroma (like menthol). They have an antibaterial effect. |
