Hey everybody,

In order to heal my adrenal fatigue and screwed up cortisol levels, I got the advice to go more highcarb (with the same amounts of protein and fat)

So now I'm wondering which sources of highcarb apart from sweet potato/yams,red beets and pumpkin/squashes there are that are higher in glucose than fructose? I might add some fruit though I don't want to go bordering on diabetes again. In reverse which fruits are ideal, apart from berries?(cause I only love strawberries)

So yay for fatgain!:s....maybe I'll finally get over my fear to get fat,as i hopefully start to feel better, especially mentally

I'd like to gain some muscle in the process.Anybody any advice how to do this, without stressing the adrenals/my body and how frequent and for how long (20 min.?30min.? more or less?)

It seems that people here that eat 75-80% fat, 10-15% protein and less than 5% carbs do not have adrenal issues nor do they have mood or feeling bad problems.

The adivice to go high carb is a little strange since you say you are borderline diabetic. I hope you know that carbs are basically strings of sugar molecules strung together to look like carbs. When they breakdown in the gut, they are converted to blood sugar which spikes your insulin...so you are not really avoiding sugar at all.

If you will eat a ketogenic diet, you will control your blood sugar and your mood and you stress cortisol problems. And you will lose a few unwanted pounds.

Also getting noon sunshine for 20 min a day half naked...10 min a side will supply you with a goodly amount of Vit D3 which also greatly helps to elevate mood. Or supplement with Vit D3 10000IU for three months...then back off to 5000IU per day.

Do Tabata wind sprints twice a week.

With the Ketogenic diet, your body may run out of energy because you body is converting itself from burning the sugar and carbs you used to intake to burning your eaten and stored fat. See Dr Eades on the conversion process http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/uncategorized/lt-frederick-schwatka-and-low-carb-adaptation/

Good luck.

I don't experience Diabetes issues anymore, but Lyme, bad gut flora and my history of chronic cardio (and probably underfeeding) whacked my adrenals&cortisol levels.I actually feel my mood lift up and stronger in muscles when I ate something like pumpkin/squash or fatty fish...or a combo of both.Glucogenis of protein is too stressful for my body.(Supposedly the brain needs about 100/120gr.of carbs) I recently read an article about a chronic exerciser and that story was very similar to mine(although I never enjoyed it).He has gone on a high paleo diet to recover the adrenals. – Joey Apr 18 2011 at 0:12

"Glucogenis of protein is too stressful for my body" -- you say this based on ... what? – Xyz Apr 18 2011 at 0:55
Based on a naturopath's recommendation, theone from the article on Performance Menu.com, and like I said before I knew and indeed ate lots of proteins which were converted I literally got anxious/nervous&depressive feelings. – Joey Apr 18 2011 at 1:01
so I can't have any extra stress since my entire body/immune system is already stressed by Lyme and other bad inhabitants – Joey Apr 18 2011 at 1:02

Your body and brain can function on ketones only. Your brain needs glucose to function on and ketones provide that glucose. The idea of the brain needing carbs is after they have been broken down to glucose. If you will eat the ketogenic way of less than 5% carbs, your body will go into ketosis and will operate just fine...as long as you sub plenty of fat and some protein for the carbs you will not be eating. Protein in meat is what our ancestors ate. It ain't stressful. Potatoes! Very little fructose, if any, plus they are ridiculously tasty. Potatoes in tallow or ghee with salt and pepper is one of my favorite things to eat.

I can't eat potatoes,since I'm intolerant of nightshades,amongst many other foods. I should've mentioned that in my post. – Joey Apr 18 2011 at 0:13

You might try rice or tapioca then. Not many nutrients, but it will give you carbs. Have you read the perfect health diet by paul jaminet? – mari Apr 18 2011 at 0:17
Thanx Mari, but I've proven to be intolerant towards all grains..basically conventional considered carbs. So i must really get my carbs within the Paleo range – Joey Apr 18 2011 at 0:22
Have you tried white rice? It has basically none of the things considered harmful in other grains. Taro might also work, and it's not a grain. – mari Apr 18 2011 at 11:50
I'm intolerant towards rice too.Especially White rice converts too much into sugars, which in turn feeds the Lyme. Basically my pancreas is healing from being soured by leaky gut. Which led to no good digestion of carbs-->getting fat...but my adrenals are also totally burned out,so it can't handle the stress of glucogenesis and for some reason my brain needs the carbs too in order to feel good. Probably all caused by stress on the body by chronic cardio, mental stressing(about food&exercise) and "underfeeding" or at least the wrong kind of 'fuel". – Joey Apr 18 2011 at 15:15

Taro, Cassava, Pumpkin, True Yam, Boniato, Camote del Cerro... I think all these, maybe except pumpkin are lower in fructose than the traditional sweet potato variety.

Joey I'm also having similar problems with having immune system problems, Lyme disease and trying to eat on a Paleo diet since I have blood sugar issues. What is your email I'd like to contact you?
