Anybody know of of Primary Care Physician who is Paleo (or close) near Palo Alto, California, where I live and work? I want to go for my annual physical and would like to find a good physician around here.

Check out Paul Abramson MD at My Doctor Medical Group: http://mydoctorsf.com. He's Paleo-friendly and has even presented data from his own personal Paleo experiments at a Quantified Self meetup. He's here in San Francisco, and is "out of network" for insurance, but had a biller who submitted claims after the fact for me.

BTW, it's Chris Kresser (with an e).

I found out about paleo from Dr. Lorenzato in Foster City, at Mariner Medical Center. He also advocates the Mediterranean diet but at least he's supportive of paleo.

My friend has reported good experiences with Dr. Thomas Cowan in San Francisco. He's more Weston Pricey than pure Paleo, but from talking to her I don't think he'd disagree with most aspects of most "paleo" diets.

And yes, Dexter beat me to it, I was going to suggest Chris Krisser as well. But he's a doctor of Chinese medicine. He's low on the woo factor actually and explains Chinese medicine from a scientific perspective. So you'd have to be comfortable going to a Chinese medicine doc instead of an MD/DO or what have you. But given what most physicians know about nutrition, I'd see Dr. Krisser.

I may go to see Dr. Cowan. Again, I don't know if he takes insurance. If need be, I can go to San Francisco (where Dr. Cowan is) but would prefer somebody down here on the Peninsula or South Bay. I don't know if Krisser could be considered a Primary Physician and Berkeley is even farther than San Francisco for me. – Thomas Seay Apr 18 2011 at 23:43

in my experience cowan isnt paleo, and is very aloof about certain conditions. im not going to bash him by explaining further, because he probably helps a lot of people and his book really is pretty amazing, but he definitely chooses his reality that might not be yours. – dsohei May 10 2011 at 5:07

Chris Krisser at http://thehealthyskeptic.org/ is in Berkeley. He is definitely paleo.

Yes, but I don't think he counts as a Primary Care Doctor, does he? I want to use my insurance. – Thomas Seay Apr 18 2011 at 23:39
He's not a Physician but am not sure about insurance. I doubt it very much. – Shari Bambino May 17 2011 at 0:27
Yes, in Calif, TCM practitioners are considered PCPs. He may, or may not, choose to accept insurance. – Marie May 31 2011 at 1:19
He also isn't taking new clients – Kelleil Jul 7 at 3:33
