Ok I realize I am probably get voted down for asking this but oh well. Is there a paleo reason I cant drink just regular old Luzianne tea slightly sweetened with light agave syrup? Its a nice break from water and coffee and so far all the green tea I have tried tastes like it has been filtered through a sweaty gym sock so some brand recommendations there would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks!!!

maybe try a squirt of fresh lemon or orange in your tea - i found that helped me - now i drink it without the citrus, but it was a good way for me to wean off the sweetness – Thumper Apr 18 2011 at 23:38
The issue isn't with the tea but with the agave. Have the Luzianne with stevia if you must sweeten or be brave and go without. – Shari Bambino Apr 18 2011 at 23:41

agave gets metabolized directly to fructose .........not good. Agave is really bad stuff. – The Quilt Apr 19 2011 at 0:14
Because your body doesn't know the difference between agave and table sugar? Try HINT water if you are looking for some flavor. – Annie Apr 19 2011 at 1:12

if you must have sweet try raw honey.

I'd disagree with this. If you must have sweet, have rice or tapioca syrup. Paleo? No. But fructose free. – mari Apr 19 2011 at 0:47

To avoid sugar.

Google agave syrup. That crap has even more fructose than HFCS and is highly processed.

1) agave 'nectar' is actually highly processed 'syrup'

2) I.E. it is pure sugar

3) it is 70-90% fructose which is a 'toxin' I.E. Processed in the liver and linked to vldl and other bad metabolic byproducts and syndromes like fatty liver disease

4) it is worse than HFCS! It should be called high fructose cactus syrup

5) pure cane sugar is a better choice!

6) why the heck do you have to have something sweet? Sweet=cheat!

7) bottom line: it ain't paleo, paleo 2.0, Archevore, or even Primal: it's a scam.

Seems like a little raw honey would be the thing to use...especially if it's just something you have once in awhile. After all, out in the wild, if you're brave enough and want to get stung you can just stick your hand in a hive and get "honey"...that seems pretty dang cavemannish to me.

Nothing better than warm tea with a spoonful of honey every now and then. Add lemon and its to die for. Rare treat.

You might have to build up to it, but start lessening the level of sweetener (whichever is your particular poison) day by day. Eventually, you won't even need it.

agave is told for being a worse sweetener for having high fructose content. AGAVE is a complex topic to do some research on. and interesting.

Agave syrup is probably the worse sweetener in the market. You're "better" off using sugar or HFCS :/

Try Tazo Vanilla Rooibos or Calm. I also like Coffee Bean's African Sunset (maybe Sunrise - something like that). All are naturally free of caffeine and naturally a little bit sweet.
