I know many Paleo-types test their blood glucose even if not diabetic. I've been fighting a cold the past few days - mild fever, sore throat, plugged ears - and my BG has been high. Not dangerously high, but around 110, which is 20 or 30 points higher than I usually run.

Anyone else experienced this?

YES...here's my stupid diabetes story number 2.

So back when I thought I had it all figured out with my type 3 (insulin dependant since burning out my betas as a type 2), I got the flu. I thought, ok, let's not eat so my body will have more energy to fight the bug. Since I wasn't going to eat, no need to shoot insulin. I checked my BS and it was 70. Cool. I'll just wait this out.

Fast forward to 12 hours later , I am hallucinating and foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog. The EMS arrives, haul me off to the ER room. My BS had rocketed to over 800.

Later, I discover Dr. Bernstein and the Diabetes Solution book. He describes how anytime your BS is higher than normal and you can't account for it, figure INFECTION. Typically a tooth. Now if I even think about getting sick my BS jumps 20 points. Oops, I am up again.

In diabetes education class we learned that any trauma to your body can elevate your blood sugar. Having a cold and mild fever classifies as mild trauma

Both of my parents had diabetes, and yes, being ill definitely increased their normal blood sugar levels, even if they weren't eating very much food of any kind.
