I am hoping some of the women on here that have dealt with endometriosis or heavy periods by going paleo. Could give some specific recommendations about what they think are the most important aspects of a paleo diet for healing these issues.
I am asking a for a friend who has endometriosis and is going to try paleo to help with her symptoms. She also has tested for thyroid in the low to normal rang but with no symptoms. She is otherwise healthy. Doesn't need to lose any weight. Has an active job and bikes 14 miles 4 days a week commuting to work. She never has issues with her digestion other then some diarrhea right before and during the first day or two of her period.
She eats a fairly healthy diet close to WPF with few grains, plenty of saturated fat, grass fed meat, fermented grass fed dairy, fermented vegis, and almost no legumes or bad oils. Her main problem is her sweet tooth she does eat a fair amount of sugar. In the form of fruit, candy, and some baked goods.
My questions are:
How low carb would you recommend? does she need to be in ketosis?
Does she need to avoid all dairy to be low carb? She makes her own 24 hour fermented goat milk greek yogurt with milk from her own goats and doesn't want to stop eating it. She also eats butter and cream.
Do you have an opinion on the most important foods to avoid? I was thinking gluten, sugar, high omega-6 oils.
She has been using some gentle homeopathics to change some of her hormone balances with some success. Does she need to stop and just let the diet work for awhile?
cod liver oil, primrose oil should she continue to take these?
Her Dr. has recommended surgery when she can afford it to take out the endometrail tissue. But she wants to try to put it in as much of remission as she can before and after that. Any other recommendations would be very much appreciated. Prove to her that the internet does have some rational, knowledgeable, and helpful people on it. Thanks
