How should we define orthorexia? According to this article: http://health.yahoo.net/experts/dayinhealth/new-eating-disorders-are-they-real we may already have it. Not sure I agree though. Another interesting aspect of this article is orthorexics are spoken of alongside of the picky eaters which tend to eat the exact food that paleo eaters tend to shun, ie processed white colored foods.

Any definition that doesn't include legitimate neurosis that affects the quality of life is an absurd abuse of language. The correct aim of applied and clinical psychology is to improve the quality of life, not to appeal to abstract normative values like "normal behavior" that have been divorced from all semblance of usefulness and benefit to the individual. |

My sister is one of those picky eaters. I don't see how it's compulsive to remove processed foods and wheat from your diet. Yes, the lady who ate only broccoli was compulsive. I see this making us look bad in the future, which is ridiculous. |
