SO my wife has one hitch with paleo, and that is her daily serving of yogurt. It keeps her female "issues" away, her words not mine. So for the ladies that may have had this issue out there, what have you found that keeps this away on a paleo diet?

im sure shes talking about yeast infections? getting rid of sugar will be HUGE, but let her have the yogurt, kefir, anything with probiotics, lots of garlic, too. in fact (TIM for the boys) you can always pop a whole clove up there to take care of any "issues". tea tree oil works well, too. umm, and (REALLY TMI for the boys and maybe for the girls, too) a friend of mine used to fill a cardboard tampon applicator (sans tampon) with plain yogurt and mashed garlic, then freeze and insert. you know, if youre opposed to taking it orally.... have i crossed a line here? |

I'd say you better check your equipment, buddy! If she is low carb, you are probably reinfecting her... {LOL...now you've edited the original question to avoid pointing the finger at you.} |

Bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is a common problem with folks that have crappy gut flora. Everyone has yeast, but those who have a more favorable environment (gut permeability, lack of good bacteria, inflammation) tend to get yeast overgrowth. Low carb paleo coupled with a good quality probiotic or the occasional fermented food like Kimchi, sourkraut, or coconut kefir does the trick. These are all good non-dairy sources and will help rebuild gut culture. One more tip on the probiotic, make sure it has at least 8-10 different strains of bacteria and at least 2 billion of each in a dose. Most yogurt, aside from quality issues and sugar, only has acidophilis and maybe one other and studies show that even those have trouble adhering to gut tissue. If your lady still wants to keep the yogurt in her diet, with a little research in your area you can usually get your hands on a raw non-pasturized source. Lastly, things that can hammer your healthy gut flora: 1. Chlorinated tap water 2. Antibiotics 3. Pain meds like NSAID's 4. Heavy stress 5. Lack of exercise 6. Sugar, especially fructose |

I'm sure you will get some answers with alternatives, but if that's what working for her, I say let her be. Just make sure the yogurt is a high quality, organic, full-fat version, etc. How long has she been on Paleo? Just getting rid of the sugars and grains will be beneficial to her. She might not need the yogurt forever. |

Paleo will probably be all the cure she needs - give it 30 days and I bet it won't be a problem anymore. Sugar was the direct cause of any outbreak I've ever had. I knew if I went on a junk food and soda binge what else was right around the corner. |

she can get probiotics in pill form instead of yogurt which should work just as well. also, if she hasn't cut out grains and sugars yet, that is the first step. she may not need the yogurt or probiotics once the sugar and grain aren't feeding the yeast. |

Fermented veggies like sauerkraut. Bubbies is a good brand or you could ferment at home, cremé fraiche is a higher fat probiotic cream, unflavored full fat Grassfed yogurt like seven stars creamery or brown cow should be fine in moderation too. Oh yeah, also, keeping the PH "up there" low helps too. My mom, who is post-menopausal sprays a little apple cider vinegar on her index finger every morning and just swipes it up there to keep the beasties away. I don't need it but before I went paleo and got more candida issues it was very helpful. |

Like Annie says, I wouldn't sweat the yogurt as long as it's high quality. There is a special probiotic for the ladies out there, if she's interested in alternatives- http://www.iherb.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Fem-Dophilus-60-Capsules-Ice/9346?at=0 |

If you get a really bad yeast infection, inserting bodice acid "up there" helps too. You can get a bottle of the powder at Amy drug store, get gel caps and insert 3 a night for 7 days. Wear a pad tho |
