I am going to a country without the option of grass-fed beef or free-ranged chicken, I wanted to know what the "healthier" option is to eat. To have a diet based on beef, even if it is grain-fed, or to stick to chicken? Thanks!!

which country? i'm in Vietnam where pork and beef is CAFO/grain-fed but chicken restaurants and even supermarkets have "running chicken" i.e. free-range. Still, Kurt Harris has said that the fat profile in factory beef is better than even the healthiest chicken. – patrick3000 Apr 29 2011 at 3:04
I am going to Haiti, and all of their meat in the supermarkets are imported mostly from the US. – Azalea Apr 30 2011 at 3:42

Beef, all the way. The micronutrient profile is better, not to mention the omega 6:omega 3 ratio is far more favorable in beef in general, no matter the quality. Supplement with fish oil if you'd like. That will help with the excess omega-6 fatty acids from the grain-fed beef.

I too vote for grain-fed beef all the way. CAFO chicken is really bad. Big omega six load all the way. Beef, even crappy beef, far exceeds crappy chicken. Better BCAAs in beef too if it matters.

I live in the USm and can't afford grass-fed anything (occasional bison and liver), but I opt for grain fed and take a lot of fish oil supps! :)
